That's the question I want to pose to everyone on the blog site. Do you think Milwaukee is a great place to get a good mix of music?

I know there are a lot of up and coming acts in this city. So tell me some of your favorites.

What venues do you think are hot for getting the best in music?

Now back to you.

Yes I think we have been getting put on the list of alot of great bands, in the last couple years.
(I am looking forward to seeing Daughtry, ) I would love to see Gwen again!!
I have of course seen a ton at Summer Fest, but also alot at The State Fair, the Riverside, The Rave, and not forget to mention all the great bands that play the summer festivals, ( like Sussex Lions Daze, and Falls Fest, and all the great church Fairs too !!)

Countryfest is always a blast, but so are all the mini Jazz festivals!!!
I love them all!

I am going to see an amazing bunch of music at the Harley 105th and I cant wait!!
What I am trying to say is we seem to be finally getting our share of music booked up here, Not like the old days when you had to drive down to Chicago to see any good music!
I will be interested to see what others post and to see where the "HOT" bands are playing!

Great blog idea, Carlos!

In my humble opinion, and as a storied concert goer, I would have to answer "No, Milwaukee is NOT a music mecca."

Having said that we DO have some excellent venues in town, like the Bradley Center, The Riverside, Pabst and Turner Hall Theaters, The Rave/Eagles, The Marcus Amp...

Each of these places thru the years have attracted big name artists, from Billy Joel and Elton John to U2, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Miley Cyrus...

Heck, next week the BC is host to "The Boss," and this summer The Police are taking over the Marcus.

So we have been fortunate as a city to draw in some major players on the music front.

But being a smaller city than say a Chicago, New York, LA, etc., if you are looking to check out newer bands and acts who are really pushing the boundries of what music can be, you have to go elsewhere.

I think a lot of that has to do with the demographics of this state, and their listening tastes. I have always viewed Milwaukee as a "classic rock" town: people here like their beer, brats and moldy oldies (aka Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, Eagles, etc...)

But both the musical landscape and ~ to quote Bob Dylan himself ~ "the times, they are a changin'" Milwaukee is WAAAAAY behind in the times to what is up and coming in the music industry.

a Lollapalloza would never be staged in Milwaukee, or a Coachella: even if these festivals would expose people to an eclectic mix of musical styles and the cutting edge artists working out there today, it would appear that Milwaukeans wouldn't go for that.
