Presidential Debate #3

We've had some great discussions the past few weeks about the debates... and now, we're at the final presidential debate. You can watch it streaming live on MyFoxMilwaukee.com (we'll be running it on tape delay after the 10 p.m. news because of baseball).
Just like my previous posts, I'm going to pose these questions to you bloggers:
Tonight's debate will focus on economy...
- What are your expectations?
- Do you think (or hope) one or both of the candidates will throw heavy punches?
- Are you looking for a clear winner in the debate?
- Will the debate help you decide who to vote for or is your mind already made up?
- What topics do you think should be covered?
During the debate, feel free to come back to this post and share your thoughts while you watch...
Don't forget to come on back after the debate to share your thoughts on how things went.
Got this e-mail from a friend today... thought I'd share.
Here's a little something to help you put the current situation in perspective.
If you purchased $1,000 of AIG stock one year ago, you would have $42 left.
With Lehman, you would have $6.60 left.
With Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, you would have less than $5 left.
But if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all of the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have $214.
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
It's called the 401-Keg

Sure,
lawmakers are steamed that AIG spent nearly half a million dollars on a retreat for executives just a couple days after receiving money from the federal government.
They're upset?
What about me?! I've been with AIG for a couple years and just saw my premium go up for the next 6-month policy. And it is not like I've had any recent "issues" in the last six months that would affect this.
I am absolutely livid.
Couldn't agree with Sen. Barack Obama more... "Those executives should be fired," he said in the debate last night.
They
should be fired.
I love this quote from Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York:
"You have cost my constituents and the taxpayers of this country $85
billion and run into the ground one of the most respected insurance
companies in the history of our country... You were just gambling billions, possibly trillions of
dollars."I have already contacted my insurance agent and asked her to find me a different company. I can't support this kind of behavior.

Last week, I asked to you share some pre, during and post debate thoughts for the VP debate.
Now, it's time for the 2nd Presidential Debate.
What are your expectations? Hopes? Predictions?
During the debate, feel free to come back to this post and share your thoughts while you watch...
And, just like last week, come on back after the debate to share your thoughts on how things went.

Are you planning to watch the Vice Presidential Debate tonight?
I probably will... because 1. I'm curious and 2. I'm a nerd.
Do you have any pre-debate thoughts? Who is going to "win?"
Feel free to post any mid-debate or post-debate thoughts here as well.
And, just in case you were wondering, there are drinking games out there as well. **If you do drink, please do so responsibly.
A friend sent me a link to
this the other day.

I think it's hilarious.
Check out Wisconsin's stats
here at popvssoda.com.
If you'd like to participate in the survey,
click here and scroll down for the "survey" section.
I'll write more about this tomorrow... but today I went to one of Bill Clinton's rally for his wife here in Wisconsin. Check out my photo albums for a few pics from today... and check back for more tomorrow.
I'm hoping to get to a bunch of different campaign events (both Republican and Democrat) this year!!!

What's a caucus?

This is really embarrassing... but I had to ask someone that this morning. What's the difference between a caucus and a primary? Earlier today, I had no idea (I play the age card here... I've only voted in one presidential election -- I turned 18 just one week after the 2000 election). Now, granted... we have 20-year-olds reporting for FOX who probably understand the whole caucus thing better than I do... wow, this is so embarrassing.
Well, now I do know what a caucus is... and I think it's hilarious!
Wikipedia describes the Iowa Caucus as:
A "gathering of neighbors."
That's basically what it is...
it's a little confusing, but read on:
The Iowa caucus operates very differently from the more common primary election used by most other states (see U.S. presidential primary). The caucus is generally defined as a "gathering of neighbors." Rather than going to polls and casting ballots, Iowans gather at a set location in each of Iowa's 1784 precincts. Typically, these meetings occur in schools, churches, or public libraries. The caucuses are held every two years, but the ones that receive national attention are the presidential preference caucuses held every four years. In addition to the voting, the presidential preference choices, caucus-goers begin the process of writing their parties’ platforms by introducing resolutions.Unlike the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary, the Iowa caucus does not result directly in national delegates for each candidate. Instead, caucus-goers elect delegates to county conventions, who elect delegates to district and state conventions where the national convention delegates are selected. The Republicans and Democrats each hold their own set of caucuses subject to their own particular rules that change from time to time. Participants in each party's caucuses must be registered with that party. Participants can change their registration at the caucus location. Additionally, 17-year-olds can participate, as long as they will be 18 years old by the date of the general election. Observers are allowed to attend, as long as they do not become actively involved in the debate and voting process..
This is absolutely fascinating to me. (Yes, I AM a HUGE dork).
Here's a link to info about primary elections...

By the way, we have sent
TED PERRY to Iowa... and as I mentioned before, FOX has a group of collegiate bloggers/correspondents... Check out their coverage by
