It's been awhile since we did this last...so let's play...

What's on your iPod? (or in your car cd player, etc)

I'll go first: right now in the car I'm swapping between the High School Musical 2 soundtrack, White Stripes' Icky Thump CD or the Hairspray soundtrack. Yes, I am a dork.

I'm totally digging the new CD from Evans Blue... The Pursuit Begins When This Portrayal of Life Ends. I highly recommend it... it is just awesome!

I'm just listening to Lifehouse.. I'm a dork, too, though. I switch from The Bravery, to Lifehouse, to The Who, all over the damn place. But, those're good bands, though.

For the past month, I've been stuck on TobyMac's Portable Sounds. Mandisa's on this CD, and Toby had her do this silly opera version of part of one song. It's hilarious! The thing I really like about TobyMac is the range in styles go from rock to hiphop to a little rap, and the songs on this CD get me dancing in the driver's seat all the way to work!

Today, my son Vinnie was driving my truck to do an errand for me. He was listening to Johnny Cash pretty loud. When he pulled up in the Pick 'N Save parking lot, an elderly lady was getting out of her car and heard the music and began dancing to it right there on the spot. Vinnie thought it was pretty cute!

Arctic Monkeys 'Your Favorite Worst Nightmare'
(cheeky brit punk with attitude AND riff-ariffic guitars)

The Cribs "Men's Needs, Women's Needs... Whatever"
(the newest outfit out of Britain - produced by Alex from Franz Ferdinand)

M.I.A. "Kala"
(my beef with hip-hop is, aside form a few, there is no originality anymore... except this record - politically charged rhymes over european beats that make you bob your head - seriously, rap fans, check this out!)

Rage Against The Machine - ALL (still amped from the concert - there's nothing like screaming 'F*&k you, I won't do what you tell me' along with thousands of mud drenched concert-goers, all tired of the current presidency)

Blaqk Audio - "Cexsells" - two of the guys from AFI break off to form an electronic outfit that sounds eerily like the old and good Depeche Mode and New Order vibes from the 80's)

Sponge Bob - "The Best Day Ever" - for when the kids are in the car!

Since I'm a Movie Soundtrack buff, I keep my 6-CD rack loaded with my favorites.....but I'm at a loss as to what's in there now....I think right now I have "Rocky Balboa" in there along with my daughter's Evanescence CD.....:) And my favorite...the Soundtrack to the movie that got me to join the Navy..."The Final Countdown"....starring Kirk Douglas....

I don't think Amy's picks are dorky at all; the White Stripes continue to create some of the best rock n' roll out there, and the HAIRSPRAY soundtrack is one of the finest, most boisterous musicals in ages. BLEEP for HSM 2, I cannot comment.

My faves at the moment:

* Bat For Lashes, FUR AND GOLD. A lovely albeit melancholy debut in the vein of Bjork and Feist
* LCD Soundsystem, SOUND OF SILVER. Try, TRY not to shake your BLEEP to this sterling dance masterpiece.
Datarock: DATAROCK DATAROCK. Same as above.
* Interpol, OUR LOVE TO ADMIRE. A gloomy, anthemic album from these Joy Division clones; best track "Rest My Chemistry"
* Maps, WE CAN CHANGE. A breezy electronica soundscape with breathy vocals
* ONCE soundtrack. Haven't seen the movie yet? What are ya waitin' for???

And some more highly recommended discs from earlier in the year:
* Amy Winehouse, BACK TO BLACK
* Lily Allen, ALRIGHT, STILL
* Nine Inch Nails, YEAR ZERO
* Garbage, ABSOLUTE GARBAGE (best of comp)
