Character In Action is a program that creates a community of virtue where moral behaviors such as respect, honesty, and kindness they are modeled, taught, expected, celebrated, and continuously practiced in everyday interactions (taken from http://www.jefferson.k12.wi.us/do/CharacterEducation/c

I think this is a wonderful program not only because it teaches great morals, but it suprisingly changed many peoples attitudes tword each other.  I have lived with this program in my school for 3 years now, and I belive it works.  Many kids who were bullies now activly participate in community service, and the honor code really cut down on detentions.

However dispite it's success several teens I talked to say it's "stupid" and "brain washing."

Whatever your opinon is I greatly encourage you to look into this program for your school.  If your school already participates in this program please share your opinions/experiances.

Thanks,

I just heard about this program and I am interested in seeing it work.

As for the teens who say the program is stupid and "brain washing" - i remind everyone that there are teens out there who are stupid and allow their peer group to brain wash them.

So give this program a chance. It may do some positive things.

Well, if they are making those claims, it would suggest that there is some flaw in it, or that the values and morals being 'enforced' are just being enforced with repetition and without actually presenting logical/fundamental reasons for why they are important. Many 'respect thy self' programs dont work if the kids havent been raised with respect by the parents... the concept is too alien to catch on.
