This just made me simultaneously furious and sad at the same time.  On May 30, Angel Arce Torres crossed the street in a neighborhood in Hartford, Connecticut.

First, Torres is hit in the side by a right side mirror of a car that swerved out of its lane.

Then he gets nailed by the car chasing the first car.

This guy walks across the street, glances at Torres like he's a mildly interesting sculpture, and continues to cross the street.

This guy just circles around before chaning his mind and pulling away.

This guy looks like he's going to go help before just turning around and walking away.

The whole nightmare finally ends when a cop shows up--but according to the article, the cop was responding to something else.  No one had called the police to help Torres.

This just pulls at you.  One witness said that he wanted to help, but Torres was bleeding.  I just can't believe no one thought to go into a nearby store and get a first aid kit, no one stood by him and waved traffic away, no one even checked his pulse.  Looks like the Red Cross needs to offer more classes in New England . . .

To see this video just made me ill! I cannot believe NO ONE helped this man! I bet no one thought to get the licence plate numbers of the cars that hit him! This is just more proof that our society is spinning out of control.....what ever happened to people being good samaritans?

I had a car accident back in 1997 and ended up in a ditch exiting the off ramp of the expressway. No one stopped to help me either....I was shocked as everyone just drove by and looked down in the ditch at me. Then the traffic jam began with all the rubberneckers and backed up traffic on the expressway! It's so very sad that people just seem to love looking at tragic events, disasters but no one is willing to help.

Just sickens me!

I wonder if Connecticut has the law that makes it illegal for bystanders not to help?

"This just pulls at you. One witness said that he wanted to help, but Torres was bleeding. "

That's the kicker. Isn't that when you should help????

I just don't get people.
Has our society really become that desensitized?

More like no sense of morals! The 78-year-old gentleman made an innocent trip out for milk and now he's in a hospital in severe pain, paralyzed, and may need brain surgery. Why? Because idiots were playing what appeared to be a rendition of the movie "The fast and the Furious."

However, Milwaukee isn't exempt. An 84-year-old woman, who was in town for a convention, asked a man for directions but ended up getting carjacked, beaten, and left on a street corner. (There should be enhancer penalties for crimes that involve the elderly.)

Thanks bigperm, I was trying to post the video while I was writing it but it wouldn't let me. Thanks for putting it up.

Barbie--I'm so sorry about your experience. I've never been in an accident (and am praying I never will) but it's too bad any potential good Samaritan is too busy rushing off somewhere.

Katbird--I agree, but maybe the guy was afraid of catching something? I don't know. If I ever had to do CPR on someone I didn't know, that would be my biggest concern: catching something. I'm pretty germaphobic (sp?) though. So hopefully there aren't many people like me.

BA--I always have thought laws are too lax. Situations where the elderly or disabled are taken advantage of are all that much worse.

(Isn't it kind of funny? All of my blogs about "hey let's help each other" don't get featured but my one about a story that makes your heart flip over does. Hmmm . . . ??? )

I am totally disgusted. This is the first time I have even seen this or heard of this. How could someone be so cold hearted and not even call the police department or an ambulance or anything?!?! Even if they were worried about coming in contact with some disease they could have at least done that! It is horrible that this person along with others just get ignored! How much do you want to bet that if it was a celebrity there would have been a million phone calls to get help or someone would have stopped to try and help as well. It makes a person think!

Pinks? I know what you mean, my daughter has posted stuff like that in the past and she has never gotten a response on any of them! She finally quit blogging on here and has deleted any of her serious posts!

Have a safe and great week everyone!

After I watched the video you posted on this blog, I was looking around at other blogs and I ran into this video on one of them. I thought it kinda fit well with this subject! Copy and paste the code into your web browser to watch it. It was created as a school project by an 8th grader! I thought it was wonderful!

I have taken many first aid courses and the first thing that needed to be done was someone needed to care. Because of the bleeding touching this person could be very harmful to the first responded. Calling 911 needed to be a different caring person. First responders should be a team of caring people. In this case someone could have moved to traffic someone could have run for plastic gloves or bags anything to cover the hands of the person who is going to touch the injured person. If I was to have seen this I would have started yelling to people like to drill segeant to call 911 from a hard line if possiable and find me gloves or plastic bags. I would have told someone to stop traffic and after my hands were covered I would have tried to help the person until the EMT arrived. That is how I learned to handle a situation of a bleeding person in trouble. I guess being a girl scout leader for 12 years you must be prepared for something to happen. First aid courses are very important in learing how to handle the situation.

There are a lot of problems in the world, and if I'm the one to change them . . . I've got God on my side and I'm up to the challenge!
