Prettyinpinks' Perception

by prettyinpinks

Last Post 7 days, 18 hours Ago

I had a post like this about 6 months ago but a lot of new bloggers have joined since then.  So . . . where did you get your blogger name?  How'd you come up with it?  Does it mean anything?  We got a really good response last time . . . they're really fun to read!

Okay, so here's mine:

I was listening to the song "1985" when the line came on: She's seen all the classics/She knows every line/breakfast club, prettyinpink, even St. Elmo's fire . . .

So, since "prettyinpink" was already taken, I added an 's.'

So what about you?  Share 'em!

I chose Basher51 because about the time that I was starting to blog I was reading about US Air Force Capt. Scott O'Grady, "Basher 5-2", who was shot down and evaded capture during Pres. Bill Clinton's undeclared war on Bosnia-Herzegovina. I was struck by the incredible heroism of the man as well as his incredible modesty.

I chose upnorth, because I love heading in that direction just to say goodbye to the city for the weekend or when ever I can get away.

I came home from work after my first day as a professionaly auto mechanic (some 35 years ago) still wearing my coveralls and smelling of gasoline. My father took a look at me and exclaimed, "Hey...you look like a real garageman!" It stuck with me.

I did not choose my name for the reason that most people think. Although Larry the Cable Guy is pretty dern funny, I just went with my lifestyle...I DO git 'r done! Around here, I do everything. Whenever anything needs to be done, I git 'r done! No problem too big or small.

Mine has been my nickname for 25 years. I got it while bartending from a customer who said I was "sitting in the catbird seat".
There really is a species called the catbird, and it’s a relative of the mockingbird. Like its cousin, the catbird is a great imitator and one of its specialties is the feline meow. The catbird has a seemingly innate sense of its own superiority, possibly because it can intimidate its competitors by imitating a predator, and when it stakes its claim to territory, the catbird instinctively selects the highest perch available from which to issue its song and it is that perch that is signified as the catbird seat.

Back in the 1970’s when I was learning how to drive tractor/trailer I met a old Indian Chief in the Pocono Mountains. We sat and talked all night long while my brother-in-law slept in the truck.
I learn from older wise people and this is why I was enjoying the long conversation. Drivers use CB radios and they had “Handles” here in the blog we call them “Blogger Names” or “Nicknames”. Before the conversation ended with the Chief & myself he said that he would refer to me as “The Snowhawk”. At that time there was an albino hawk that lived in the mountains with his people that they appropriately named “The Snowhawk”. They admired this bird because he loved his solitude and his freedom, but it was noted that he would always help other birds in need of all different types. I have held this handle throughout my life in honor of the Chief. My license plate is “Snohawk”.

That is an absolutely beautiful story, Snowhawk!
I imagine you are quite honored to keep that nickname! I know I would be!!

I thought up mine because as I get older and the kids are all leaving I'm really "Lovinlife".
Don't get me wrong, I love them all but after 30 years of raising kids it's time for my husband and I. To do what? I don't know. Just to be.

I chose barbiedoll1959 because I grew up with the Barbie doll....she was my favorite doll. As an adult I collected them for a while. I love the early Barbies vs the modern ones today. The 1959 is, well, the year I was born and the year after Barbie was invented.

I'm just your average teenager. I don't actually like the color pink that much, but it was just a random name that popped into my head. So here I am: Prettyinpinks. I'm out to try to change the world. I believe global warming is a real problem and I don't want my kids growing up in a world without snow and ice. I think way too idealistically and think that the government should put people before profit. I'm told that was never going to happen, but I didn't think it was such a bad idea. I think world hunger is a giant problem but that any and all suffering in the world spews from corruption and misunderstanding. Anyway, enough about my philosophy on life. I play varsity basketball and volleyball, am on the honor role, love animals, and love God even more. So that's me in a nutshell. Thanks for reading . . . : )
