Travelers who fly out of General Mitchell International Airport will see new security procedures starting Friday.

According to the TSA, the program consists of a series of different lines designated by signs directing passengers based on their travel needs and knowledge:

  • Expert - for the business traveler who flies several times a month
  • Casual - for passengers who travel less frequently, but are familiar with the security process
  • Family/Special Assistance - for those traveling with small children or strollers, elderly passengers and anyone who may need special assistance.

What do you think about this program? BLOG IT and maybe we'll share your thoughts in a later newscast. Make sure to include your first name and where you are from.

Christine from Delavan:
I think it's a good thing. My husband flies pretty regular for work but myself I rarely do. On our last vacation when we went through security I was the "speed bump" in the line. Not being as familiar with all the regulations I was taken aside to have my purse searched because I'd forgotten I had a small container of hand sanitizer not enclosed in a ziplock bag. Of course by the time we were up to the security line my husband already had his shoes in his hand and was removing his belt. You can always tell us casual passengers apart from those expert ones!

It seems like a good idea on the surface. I guess we'll see, won't we.

I am an expert traveler. I travel internationally 6-7 times a year along with numerous national flights. I am prepared in the security line BEFORE I get to the front, I have my computer out, shoes and belt off, liquids in a clear quart size ziploc bag. I am being courteous to the people behind me as I can get through quickly and with out holding up the line. What is frustrating are the "expert" travelers who refuse to be prepared, and will not take their shoes off etc, until they are at the front of the line. They act annoyed like they are something special and they are above all of this inconvenience. Well they are the trouble, they cause the inconvenience.....YOU know who you are!

Why don't they have a 10 - 50 year old Middle Eastern Islamic line?

I have simplified my life - I just stopped flying. I disliked the attitude of the security people and I felt that passengers were treated like cattle. After paying for an expensive ticket, having to pack carefully and observe all the packaging rules, putting up with the usual inefficiency of the airlines, THEN being demeaned in the manner in which the security people seem to just love to treat other people, I said, OK, enough.

I think the TSA have a very difficult job making it safe to fly. 9/11 has changed our life and I thank the TSA for changing with it.
I'm ready to go thru the lines with my shoes off and I have carefully packed to make this easy to get thru the lines. I would stop flying if they stopped checking.
