The city of Milwaukee has a new police chief. Edward Flynn will tackle plenty of issues to help your perception of crime and safety in the city.

Which do you think he should tackle first? Are there any issues which you believe have been ignored in the past? BLOG IT!

Umm, let's see??? There just seem to be so many. He has a very large task on his hands. Maybe you could get him to start a forum here and take the questions of citizans for a day or two? That will give him a good idea of what he is up against. But I know that won't happen.

The biggest difference so far was seeing cops out there, last summer, walking the beat...I've seen major decreases in criminal activity in the last year in my neighborhood and i live in the inner city close to downtown. Nope, it's not paradise, but it's a start. Only problem is the police can't do this alone...we as working class people, families, buisness owners, and neighbors have to all look out for one another...which involves working together WITH the police department. Also, it takes courage on everyone's part to speak up....which means refusing to remain silent when we see something that is potentially a problem in our homes or in the streets. Finally, contact your local county and city officials, and let's please stop ignoring our children .......and lastly, write to your congressmen and women. Sorry, i didn't mean to sound like my avatar photo...............anyways--peace

I think it has to come down to relations between the police and the public. The public as in the neighbors, businesses, families, and group organizations like the neighborhood watch. And add churches too. (I can see that in the works). I know that some would not agree with this mostly, but there has to be a silver lining in all of this. For this, yes, Chief Flynn has a tough task ahead of him, but it has to be our part in the process of working on the three words he chose from his Swearing in Speech which stood out I think are Milwaukee's problems: Crime, Disorder, and Fear.

And Fox6Fan you hit the nail on the head about the suggestions. Most folks should take note of that - Seriously.

Speaking of the Speech - the JS (Journal Sentinel) has post it on their website and if you have MS Word on your CPU's, you can download it and read it. Copy and paste the link in your browser.

The City of Milwaukee has ignored so much for so long that I don't think a new chief will do much good. Anyone who knows anything about Milwaukee would probably not even apply for the job. They are defeated before they start. So of course Milwaukee had to hire someone from many states away.

Milwaukee has social problems which have become so exacerbated that the problems have spilled out onto the street where the police are poorly equipped to handle them. Social problems become legal problems. Milwaukee has education problems. The teachers at MPS don't have raw material to work with. Kids come to school not even understanding how to sit down and they don't understand - even in kindergarten - that you are not supposed to swear at the teacher. Parents don't know how to be parents.

Just build a wall around Milwaukee and put razor wire at the top.

You are correct stephen1276...we are all the problem if we stand around and do nothing cowering in fear all day and night....let's work so we all can be the solution as well. This process takes time, it is slow even, but it's sometimes the little things that make the biggest difference. Like changing ourselves first for the better.... then changing the world.--peace

I think the #1 answer should be Gun violance,we have an overwellming # of death's daily.gun's,gun's,gun's,from children to adult's,we have our own Alquida here in our citie's,and we worry about other countrie's?,we need to monitor our own backyard's.if peolpe want to stop the violance, they need to GET INVOLVED!start reporting problem area's.and the police need to go after it,or put the military on our own street's,and people walking around with Hood's on,possibly have something to hide, has fox 6 noticed that at least 95% of all robberie's committed are waring hood's.when i went to canada you could not have an open shirt on the street, over regulated but a thought about hood's in public place's? no shoe's no shirt,no hood's no service? when you enter a building you should have to show facial ID.imagine how effctive this may be as a deterant.and business' with bad video, well your loss in catching a theif.for facial recognition.

I don't think one person is going to make any difference. All we can do is pray and run.
