Radom Flashes of Brilliance

A New Zealand judge recently made a nine year old child a ward of th ecourt so that she could CHANGE HER NAME.  What was her name?  "Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii."

Apparently parents in New Zealand are getting a little too creative with their baby names, and officials are apparently finding themselves having to block some of the more bizarre choices parents have made, such as "Sex Fruit", "Keenan Got Lucky", and "Yeah Detroit".

Now we have plenty of examples of irresponsible parenting here in the United States, and even in Southeastern Wosconsin.  It really bugs me as a teacher when I get the children of one of these irresponsible parents and the parent works against the school and it's mission of educating their children.

As a local talk radio host says: you need a license to fish but apparently anyone can have a baby.

Lol Lovinlife I had the exact same reaction.
Jds I have no idea. Parents should make sure that kids' names, nicknames, and initials won't cause grief.
And they should plan for the future, too. I don't think Ann Susan Taylor is necessarily a bad name . . . unless she marries someone whose last name begins with an S. I don't know why some parents don't take names seriously!

Certain countries will not let you name a child something weird. England used to be one. I think Italy is another.

I don't blame the poor kid. She would probably be better off moving out of the house and living on her own, as rough as that would be at the age of 9. At least she would not have to live with the two mental incompetents who named her; that can only be a huge improvement in her little life. I wish her the best! She has a good start so far by wanting a decent name.

desertwindrider, I didn't see anyone blame the kid. If you re-read the original post, you will notice that I am placing this squarely on the shoulders of the parents.

I am certainly not blaming the kid. She did not choose her parents. Nor her name.

This is a smart little girl.

RARE APPOLOGY: Sorry DWR, I read your original comment as telling us not to blame the kid, not that you agree with her. I appologize for jumping down your throat based on my mis-reading of your comment.

Farewell Tallulah Does the Hula From Hawaii, hello .... what do you think? Jane? Susan?

prettyinpinks your coment was funny. What a thought.

I heard a child called Latreen, kind a reminds me of a toilet. A nother name is Cinnamen, this reminds me of spices. What ever happened to simple names like Jane or Robbert? I also heard of the name Poofoo. This is the name on his birth certificit. How about this one,"Mincmeat", no kidding. It's true.
