Now I am all for personal freedom BUT in my opinion anyone who would name a new baby FENWAY is a little bit nutty.

Did the parents even think about this child's future? What is he going to do when applying for a job? What about the other children in school who will probably make fun of his name.

Such a big burden for a little guy. Seriously, if these parents liked the name so much they should have bought a dog a named him Fenway!

Not as crazy as the parents a few months ago that wanted to name their baby 4Real (correct spelling by the way). Since they were not allowed to name their baby a name that started with a number, they named him Superman. No joke.

JuneInMa now that you mention it I do remember that story. You need a license to drive a car. a permit to carry a gun but ANYBODY can have a baby. Very scary.

guggi,

I've been saying the same thing for years now. Parenthood is too precious for just anyone to be able to do it. There should be a test or something you need to take. Too many crazies in charge of innocent children nowadays.

Guggi, it's downright frightening when you think about it...And I'm willing to bet that neither parent has a name that got them made fun of in school. If they had, I doubt they'd name a kid Fenway. (Or look at Eddie Van Halen, he named his kid Wolfgang. So it's not just the average folk who do things like this!)

The one that takes the cake for me was the fact that Rob Morrow named his daughter "To". Seriously.

I was going to name my son "Gabriel", but...oh BLEEP...I'd have to tell you my last name to tell you why that would have been disastrous...never mind!

My mother was seriously planning to name me Valentine, which is a pretty name, but not if you're actually born on Valentine's Day, which I was. That would've been a lifetime of eye-rolling. I'm very grateful she settled on Sarah, and I can use Valintyne as a screen name only.

By the way, "Fenway"? Anyone on here read "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? Fenchurch? Anyone?

...Read the book & saw the movie, Val. Weird, but enjoyable...

The books, I thought, were brilliant. The movie was HORRIBLE. Not an easy thing to translate to film, and I think it would have been better left untranslated. I can re-read those books over and over again, though...

I got some laughs out of the movie. It was utterly bizarre, no doubt; but if you're a nerd for weird movies like Wes Anderson's films, you'd probably think it was alright.
One of my favorite movies of all time was "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" starring Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, and Owen Wilson. If you've seen that movie, and you know it's one of my faves, then you'd know I have weird taste -- and I'm totally fine with that.
Have you ever read any Augusten Burroughs, Val?

No, I haven't - didn't he write "Running with Scissors"? I've read reviews of it, but never read the actual book. And I've been wanting to see "The Life Aquatic...", but it's pretty far down on the Netflix queue. I can't say I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan. "The Royal Tenenbaums" was interesting, but a little too stark for my taste. I like my bizarre a little more along the lines of "Stark Raving Mad" (a hugely underrated film). You might like "Four Rooms" with Tim Roth, if you haven't already seen it.

August, sweet August with your purple heather on the marsh and your multicolored sunsets. Why can't it be August all year round?
