The Rain was Perfect timing! for the perennials and flowers....

They really needed a good downpour....and then twenty minutes later .. a second steady watering... Yeah!!

I dont think this will help the grass that has went into its summer draught stage, but time will tell ....

Its stiil a great time to add perennial/flowers to your garden ..

The stores are full of such exciting new varieties (Like all the new colored coneflowers~SO COOL!)

I dont know about anyone else but I have seen sooo many hummingbirds in the gardens this year, more than my whole life! they are loving the bee balm, and trumpet vines!...

What has been your favorite bloom so far this year?

Just curious......

I planted Ranunculus bulbs this year and they are just starting to bloom. They are beautiful, very vibrant. I also tried some vanilla marigolds, they actually smell like a carnation, which is nice because I am not big on marigolds because of the smell. Those are my favorite this year, but according to my hubby, there are not many flowers I don't like.

Your garden looks beautiful by the way.

I was babysitting when it started thundering like there was no tomorrow. I said, "okay, guys, let's go inside" and they weren't too happy about it but I was like "YES!! I DON'T HAVE TO WATER THE GARDEN!!"

aaro-nf, you have melon plants? I had no idea you could grow melons in Wisconsin!!

Hoping for a little more rain too...
trying to get my raspberries established in the corner of my yard... made the mistake of putting them in a shaded spot and the whole 6 berries I would have gotten this year the birds ate on me.

The rest of my garden is blooming nice... all the fall crops are starting to blossom, cantalope, watermelon, pumpkins, and brussel sprouts...
I am not sure if the cucumbers are more fall or late summer but I am waiting for them too..

I also think for my first garden I planted way too many tomato's..The 15 plants didn't look like much then but now....gotta find some create things to do with them all growing out there.

Love your garden... hope to do more flowers next year...I started with vegetables thinking it may be easier while I really think about what I want around the rest of the yard.

Wow,
Thanks for all the notes!!!
UpNorth~ Vanilla marigolds sound so interesting! You should try to save the seeds,, they are one of the easiest to grow from seed... Good Luck!

Yes I read about dry gardens...
good write up!
The bunnies are very bad this year ( And the deer)
They seem to be nibbling on every thing!
I am having luck with an organic spray that actually smells pretty good, it made from Laveder and mint oil I think.
Silver feather! Sounds like you are a great competition for Gus's Garden!
I used to plant 1/2 acre of veggies ,,, now its all flowers...
I LOVE THEM!!

Hey V!!! How's biz?? Yes, bring on the rain. Maybe Vince could do a rain dance for us! Beautiful picture of your flowers too! One of my clients gave me some Tuber Rose bulbs. I planted them a few weeks back and they are coming up gangbusters now. I heard they smell so wonderful.
Hi upnorth!! If you haven't yet, you just have to go visit Vanessa's (gardendesigners) little shop. It is the cutest little place!

Hi Antmarta, I plan on visiting Vanessa's shop soon.

Gardendesigner, I am going to save some of the seeds because they were pretty expensive at the greenhouse I bought them from.

Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful weather today.

I am a little worried about our weather lately.
My perenials went to seed about two weeks ago and my burning bushes are bright red. This doesn't usually happen by my house until the end of August. Why is this happening so soon? Could it be because the weather has been so dry and cold at nighttime? Global warming effect? I did water every day when it was so dry and even after the rain we have gotten, when I add new flowers, the ground is hard as a rock.

Yep we are stll down a couple inches! ( see vinces Blog)
I saw at one of my clients today a burning bush red on one side of a walkway... and two feet away one still green!.... This is definately a crazy year... I have been watering only my new plantings as anything that is established will be just fine....
Happy watering!!
