I pay child support for a child.  And I'm supposed to be receiving child support for another child.

Both orders (as payor and payee) are out of Sheboygan County.

I live in Washington County.  If I fall behind in my obligation, I end up with 2 Washington County Sheriffs at my door with an arrest warrant.  I don't mean that I'm years behind, I'm talking about 2 or 3 missed payments.

The one who is supposed to paying support to me, lives in Milwaukee County.  He hasn't paid me any support since the order went into affect in June of 2007.

Curently, there is a warrant for his arrest that was issued in March.

He has been in Milwaukee County court for a different case two times since Sheboygan county issued the warrant.  And both times, it appears he was able to walk out of the courthouse.

I admit, he may not be easy to track down as he seems to keep ending up without a permanent address and tends to drift around between friends, and from what I've heard, he works for cash.  Unlike me, who has been at the same address for 10 years.

And I'm sure that it's when the Sheriffs dept in Washington County runs out of things to do, that they go out and round up the people with warrants.  I'm pretty sure the Police and Sheriffs Dept in Milwaukee County don't usually run out of things to do and tracking down someone whose crime is money related and not violent probably isn't a top priority.

However, isn't there some sort of statewide system that would allow someone with a warrant to be picked up when they walk into court?  If he were pulled over for speeding, he would be hauled away because the warrant would show up when they call in his license.  But when he walks into a courthouse with a warrant over his head, nothing happens???

Kenosha County sucks to. My parents haven't recieved child support for my 14 year old niece (who lives with them) in over 10 years, it is reported but nothing has been done. My sister hasn't recieve child support for her 9 year old since 2006... Kenosha County sucks to....

It starts with the two people (parents) involved. Too often the children are conceived by two people who know very little or nothing about each other. Responsible people take care of their business. Obviously this guy was not worthy of your affection and trust. Dead beats don't become deadbeats over night, and people don't talk about the "what if's" should a pregnancy occur. They think about the few minutes of pleasure and not the years of the future.

My issue is more about the way child support works than the fact that my ex is a deadbeat. I don't understand why I can be $300 behind and get arrested and he can be thousands behind and still walking around free. Anytime a news show does a story on deadbeat parents, they manage to find people that are $50,000 behind. How come reporters can find them and law enforcemnt can't?

It isnt a matter of the laws or warrants being followed up on... it is a matter of being proactive with your cases.

Sorry to say the Whole state is lax when it comes to Support, If you look in CCAP you can see when he is suppose to be in court, contact the county he has warrants in make sure it is a "body" warrant v. Bench warrant.

Body means that they must bring him to the county that he is wanted by, the bench is more for if he is caught in the county that wants him then they bring him in.

my understanding is that you can ask for a bench warrant to be changed, this is how it was explained to me by a DANE county SHERIFF, he told me unless I had a body warrant on my ex I wouldnt stand a prayer if he was picked up in a different part of the state.

Once you have the body warrant, make sure that the Bailiff office and judge in Milwaukee know that he has a CS warrant and that it is indeed a body warrant.

They "should" hold him over for the holding county to come pick him up.

You can also go to small claims court and file a suit. What will happen is he will be required to show. He will be served by a Sheriffs deputy and once in sight to the sheriff, he can be arrested. You have to use the system to your benefit. Higher a Private Eye to track him down and once he is found, call the police and sign a citizens arrest complaint. Trust me, if you hit him in every direction you can, he will have no choice but to address the situation. As well, contact your District Attorney, State Attorney General and the CPA, (Child Protection Agency) and file complaints with each. Someone will eventually listen to you.

I paid support through Milwaukee County for kids living abroad and it was a frustrating 10 years of being passed around from one social worker to another. The more specialized the case, the harder it is to get answers because there are way less people qaulified to handle "Interstate" cases such as mine was. I ended up paying almost a year and a half of extra support with no way of getting my money back. Well, other than what one worker told me was my only option and that was to sue my ex-wife for it but then I would have had to gone to Germany and sue her in German court. Oh sure, I'll pop right over there and do that....

The system is a joke from either side of the table when it comes to our child welfare system. Even with numerous requests and warrants, my sister never got any money from her first spouse for a child they had together and all the while he raised another family with 6 kids...

I feel like we're paying a lot of people in those offices, although not all of them, just so they have a job. If you've never been in the Child Welfare Office in the Court Building, go sit in there and watch all the people who work there walk in and out of that office over and over again all day long. It's total ineffciency.

what the hell! that is not right for him to do that! why did he get to walk out scott free? it is a good thing that sheboygan county does have a warrent for his arrest. when he does not pay child support, it's like you have to find the money somewhere else since you rely on that money for the children. it is not fair to you and it is not fair to the children as well. did you ever try taking him to court on the back child support situation? all i have to say is that who would ever want to do that to their children? if you owe child support, PAY UP! great job on the posting of this blog, fuzzytop. hopefully you get the money you deserve for the kids.

I have the same problems in Fond Du Lac county. From my experiences and what I've heard from others, FDL is male prefered.

I have to say that my exhusband does pay on time and every week at the same time. I can count on it coming into my checking account come Friday morning. I have a step daughter who has a dead beat father of her son who is in jail all the time. She is lucky that she gets $5.00 every three months. This father of her child has 13 other children from many other women. I would have to say that she was not thinking with her head and just went with the moment of lust. That is sad. Every day I thank god that my exhusband and I have a good relationship with our children. My husband now also is very good to our children. All I can say is hang in there. Our children are the ones that seem like their in the middle. Let this be not brought up when the children are around. Good luck to all of you.
