Up north we had a tradition.  When the very first 40-degree day came around we used to do something special.

I think this year I am going to run outside nearly naked (I wouldn't want to scare the animals in the woods) and make happy noises as loud as I can.  You may see me on the news being hauled off to the funny farm lauging and hollering, but I don't care.

What you going to do?

It's funny, I lived on the coast of North Carolina for 18 years and when it got down to 40 degrees everyone thought we were going to freeze to death! Now I live in a place where 40 degrees can seem like a heat-wave. I've lived in Wisconsin now for about 10 years. When I first got here people kept telling me "Oh, you'll get used to the cold....someday you won't even notice it". I'm still waiting for that to happen! Makes me wonder why the first settlers here didn't reconsider their choice after the their first Wisconsin winter.

I was born and raised here in Wisconsin and ya know what? I have NEVER gotten used to the cold. I freeze my every-lovin' ba-ddippy off every winter. I have to live in creams and lotions for 6 months out of the year. My skin cracks and bleeds and I use enough first-aid cream to consider purchasing stock in a few pharmaceutical companies. No, you don't ever get used to the cold. Regarding the people who told you that you get used to the cold and you don't even notice it; I don't know what planet they've been visiting recently.

I would like to be able to say that I am a suburban dweller working 40 hours a week with an SUV and 2.2 children and I have spare time in which I golf. However, none of that is true. I would just LIKE to say that. So I did.
