Michigan residents could be asked to pay a two percent sales tax on certain business-to-business services.
Republicans say the general public won't buy it. The Granholm
administration also is to deliver a proposal for replacing the
Single Business Tax. What do you think?.... are you willing to pay a tax to help bail the state out of trouble, or will this tax just continue to drive businesses and people out of the state?

I think that this tax will hurt the state. We may not feel it in a month or in two, but the fact is that michigan has some of the highest taxes in the country. Granholm has messed our state up more since she took office and this is just another example of the inadequacies in her debt management plan. To make matters worse she wants to start a no worker left behind plan. Where is the money supposed to come from? I personally believe that in her proposal to come out tomorrow will be filled with profuse amounts of inadequate legislation. She will probably raise taxes even more. Thus condemning our state to a bleak future.

Just another tax increase by a liberal tax and spend Democrat. The answer to all problems is to create new programs and increase taxes. Will the last person to leave Michigan please close the door so other staes don't become infected.

I do not think that the citizen's of this state should have to be responsible for our legislator's mismanagement of funds and inability to manage the budget. Money is constantly taken from one fund to supplement another, and when that doesn't work, well, let's just call for a tax increase. Implementing this 2% service tax is just one more way to enable incompetence. But more than that, it is certainly NOT going to solve our budget and economy crisis in this state. It's just putting a bandaid on a big, gaping wound!

the new tax will hurt business and the people. she should start with cutting the budget frist. cut back on staffing and other perks for the state officals. Why does her husband need an office with four staffers?
I am now planning on moving out of state when I retire, main reason is taxes

I believe that people are leaving Michigan in droves and this will only shove more people out of the state.
I do not believe this is the answer to Michigans problems.
There is a joke south of Michigan among truckers, you always here them say, "the last one out of Michigan shut off the lights", from the steady stream of Michigan license plates going south. Pretty sad huh?
We want to make Michigan a state that people WANT to move to not leave. So adding a tax on the small business guy is not going to help. You can gain what you would from a "2 cent" tax with efficency and productivity improvements in government services. Government services waste a lot of money. Looking and making changes here first could save the state a whole lot of money. We are taxed enough, find another way Jennifer.

this will continue to drive people and busniness out of state. She should start with the budget frist how about the state cutting back on staffs. Why does her husband need an office and a staff of four? to start with.

I plan on leaving the state when I retire were taxes living is cheaper.

I would only be interested in helping the state when we are shown some major cuts happening within Lansing. I think raising taxes is not the solution because the same issues will still be there next year. And then what? There are less people in Michigan than even a year ago, but yet everything stays the same within states budget. Just doesn't make sense. And now she has more big money plans...helping to educate the very people she helped with losing their jobs.
None the less, if nothing else this has "cured" me from ever voting democrat again!!! Live and learn.

Of course it's going to hurt bussiness. I'm in the service industry in the home improvement field. The poor michigan economy has Put a strangle hold on the service industry but the tax will be the nail in the coffin. Governor Granholm like most politians are out of touch with reality. If she would have told us this before the election does she honestly think she would have won. I'm sorry but it is time to recall Governor Granholm

FYI...Michigan is now tied with North Dakota as the number one state to move out of. If this passes, I'm sure we'll clear that number one spot by a large margin!

This tax is disgusting. Maybe Jennifer should try taking a 2 % pay cut!! What about a self funded retirement account??? Or maybe pay hugh medical deductibles like everyone else. I have a difficult job and so does my husband no one is payiny either of us to be married to someone with a difficult job. How many political spouses are also on the government payroll!!!

The republicans are right! I am the 'general public' and if this passes I will be doing my 'buying' in Ohio. I'm lucky enough to live by the state line. I'll be buying everything from groceries to hair styling to automobile repairs there. She has already cost this state many manufacturing jobs so now lets hit tourism. Tourism is the best hope that this state has to bootstrap our economy so now we should tax it. Business to business costs go up, service costs go up, and the consumers get it in the wallet. Go Govenor Granholm. Yea.

I'm leery about it. I don't think it's fair to ask for that tax when they have increased the taxes for what seems like lesser property taxes (NOT).

I think Jennifer needs to worry about raising up some jobs,Instead of raising taxes. The only thing I can say to everyone that voted for J.G. is "I told you so". What made you think that she would do any better these four years. All she has ever done is raise taxes and I think every one forgot. ex.cigarettes and gasoline. Now she wants us to pay for there screw ups.

I think she has lost touch with reality. How will this state ever recover unless people have some income left to spend. So many working people are already struggling to survive and so many businesses too. When will the mentality of taxing the working to give to those who choosenot to end. I think she is on a mission to destroy what is left of our state. Does she even care that people have nothing left to give. Absolutly not!!!

As for me, I am keeping my faith in Granholm. Those of you who choose to leave, good luck. Problem with Michigan is, everyone wants something for nothing! I work a union position, and it grinds me that they protect losers that give a few moments work for 8 hours pay, that's only when they decide to show up. Everyone should look at the big picture. Alot of what is happening to business today is brought on by a lazy society of people who have bad work ethics. No one wants to work for anything, they want it handed to them on a silver platter. When you all get to your destinations, please post a blog and let us die hard Michiganians know if the grass is greener in other states. Remember, our door is always open!

Edit | Delete This is ridculous. If anyone in this country should be impeached it is Governor Grandholm. What she did to L. Brooks Patterson's outstanding proposal is disgusting. My son has already left the state and I can not wait to follow!!!! Instead of a 2% tax how about a 2% pay cut for the Governor and all state employees!!!!! Everyone else in the state has had to tighten their belts. Maybe when everyone has left Michigan (taxpayers) the overly entitiled government employees will understand with no citizens left to pay taxes there are also no citizens left who need the over paid government services!!! Number 1 overpaid state employee Jennifer Grandholm!!! I am with L. Brooks Patterson and praying someone pulls her and her idiotic ideas to Washington!!!! I really believe this time Michigan CANNOT recover. I doubt even the Republicans can fix Michigan this time!!!! Add a Comment

The idea for this tax is just that, an idea. If adding on a few extra dollars for a cut and curl or french manicure can help MY state and MY kids in the state in having a better chance for the future then lets go for it. Of course it would seem hard in the beginning however I am willing to take that chance in order to ensure that the kids I may have in the future have GREAT schools and are proud of their state that is home.

The only thing that Granholm know how to do is raise taxes. How dare she even consider raising taxes in a already hit economy. She will not be able to tax her way out of the devistation that Michigan residence and both small and large businesses have faced. The loss of jobs, homes, lives? The lucky ones are strapping to survive and Jennifer simply want to raise taxes on those who are left??. I don't think so. Jennifer needs take a pay cut. Her performance is lack luster to say the least. Please go back back to Canada .

No we shouldn't have a raise in taxes, don't we pay enough now. Let Granholm take a cut, live like the rest of us.My husband pays to work in the city of Detroit and we have a refund owed to us from last years taxes, I have emailed Granholm, Stabenow, and the city of Detroit for help, now replies or help and still no check. Maybe we bought the Mayor a new suit.Let Granholm fix the problem, didn't she create it?Wouldn't things be different if we had companies who stayed or came to this state? We're leaving this state this year too, time to get out.
