Ok.  So the Mayor is wondering why these young kids are running around with guns and hanging around with older boys???  Come on Mayor.  No-one can discipline their children anymore without going to jail.  That's the big problem here.  Also, people have said in the 14th & Greenfield area that they have to work 2 jobs to make it and don't have time for their children.  Gee....have to work 2 jobs hey!  Go figure.  There are going to be a lot of people that are going to have to do that to pay the taxes in this state and their mortgages etc.....  Just filling your gas tank is a days pay for some.  You wonder why all the crime and robberies?  THINK ABOUT IT!  Also, what about that girl that was attacked in Lincoln Park?  What the heck was she doing out at 1:30am????   Where are her parents????   Let us start disciplining our children (and I mean spanking, not beating the hell out of them), without going to jail.  When you find these kids on the street after hours up to no good, throw them in jail for the night.  Let them see what it's all about.  No more slaps on the wrist.  That's the only thing that's going to work.  This city is falling apart.  Something has to be done.

I can bet every dollar I have that the KIDs parents or parent are one of two things 1) on serious drugs ie crack, 2)comes from a single mother how is at work all the time to make ends meet. When are people going to realize that there is a city with in a city in Milwaukee and no matter who many police they put on the streets it isn't going to stop! That is jsut making some people have more distrust and contempt for the police. Where did the gun come from probably from a "friend " of the kids cause in this city with in a city getting caught with out one can cost you your life! The key is education these police, prosecutors and politicians need to start reaching out to these kids while they are in middle school. Hwo many times do you here about them visiting these kids in schools? I have a question where was the outrage when a friend of mine was killed on that same street corner in 2002 14 and Greenfield? All he got was a little and I mean very small article in the paper?

Blame the parents, blame not being whooped or punished, blame lack of programs for the kids, put the blame why some of these kids need to be thoroughly checked by a health care professional. You can put the blame wherever you want, but the bottom line is that unfortunately, not all parents are bad parents. Perhaps some of these parents did cry out for help, but there wasn’t anything that anyone could do….until, of course, someone got shot or killed. The system is set up for failure. I was told numerous times that the police departments are “reactive and not proactive”. If your child is under the radar and has not been linked to any crime, not a threat to themselves or others and is relatively intelligent, then the services for these children are NONE! The YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs, etc. are great places….for those “good” kids. However, after a certain age, the kids can come and go as they please. The teens have too many rights these days and when you try to cry out for help, no one listens. I asked for help from judges, lawyers, social workers, teachers, counselors and doctors, reporters and even Oprah. Nothing happens. Everyone is all talk or “it’s out of their control”. Unless you have someone that is truly and genuinely interested in saving a kid, most of the kids fall through the cracks. I continue to pray for the officers that were shot and their families and for my child, but I equally pray for the kids that are out there waiting for someone to take them by the hand and teach them right. I also pray for the parents that are trying to raise their chi

Continuation......I also pray for the parents that are trying to raise their children correctly, but are just having a hard time – whoopin or no whoopin. If whoopings really worked, the jails and prisons wouldn’t be as crowded as they are today. There is WAY too much talk about what should be done to these kids AFTER THE FACT! Let’s work on being PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE and maybe we’ll get someplace. Remember this? “Love’s in Need of Love Today” – Stevie Wonder, 1976

I am tired of all the talk. Talk doesn't get you anywhere. Talk is just hot air. What we need is hot lead directed to the scum of the city of Milwaukee.

Funny the district attorney threatens parents with jail for their kids not being in school... Shooting a police officer, raping and murdering are totally NOT the parents fault??? Look, help, I am a parent and I'm telling you now that having control over children is NOT easy, but these are some rules in my house, "No drugs, no guns used outside the shooting range, and no having sex with people that say "no"!!!! Not hard rules to live by! Why aren't more parents taking responsibility for more then their kids missing school??? We really are in trouble if more and more people think like you, help! This kid was a Latin King, and I'm telling you now the mother knew, and enjoyed the "protection" the status her son had in the gang! SHE KNEW!!! She didn't care! Throw her in JAIL!!!!!

PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE WE NEED TO STOP BLAMING THE PARENTS. KIDS NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. ESPICALLY AT THAT AGE!!!! THEY KNOW BETTER!!! IT'S NOT LIKE THEY WERE 4 YEARS OLD. THEY MAY ACT LIKE IT BUT THEY WEREN'T. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!!!

auntieannie66 There is no "protection" status in a gang it is a lifestyle of looking over your shoulder and watching your back!

What does the city think one summer of increased police patrols is going to stop gang wars that some have been going on for more than 10 yrs where lifes have been lost on both sides? Its going to take alot more! gang truces are possible. The King and MPs have been in a war for at least 9 yrs and has cost the lives of at least 10 people plus. The Kings have been hit with two major inditments, in the time the MPs have grown to be maybe the largest gang on the South Side and they have made there mark with numerious killings of rivals.

cocopuff good one cause i agree with you.. and stop blaming the parents.. blame our system.. we can't spank them we can't disiplint them.. we can't do anything to them.. and they know it cause they are taught it in school.. you can be the best parent and your kids can turn into the streets.. and it dose take two people to work.. IT IS NOT THE PARENTS FAULT..

Wait.... Mayor Barrett is going to name a new police chief this week. IT WILL BE Chief Flynn. (It's cut and dry). Then all our problems will be solved and all the crime will end here in Milwaukee. The more things change, the more they stay the same. This place is such a joke. What a sorry place to live!

I love to Golf (not very good, but working on it). I love animals. I have cats, a bird and a dog. I'm 40ish, but look 28 (ha ha). I love thrift stores and can spend 2 hours in a grocery store. Most people don't like to grocery shop, but I use coupons and check the isles for all the good deals.
