This story scares me.  Police throw a man into a wall and then laugh when he can't get up.  Why can't he?  He's now paralyzed.  What the heck kind of background and psychological tests do they have for police officers?  I'm scared to death to get pulled over for speeding or something minor.  What if that officer had a bad day and decides to take it out on me.  What can you do?  What if he feels like shooting someone that day because the last one got away?  Would an innocent person be that victim?  Something has got to change.  We should not have to be afraid of the police.  To protect & serve is what they are supposed to uphold.  Also, why are suspended police officers still getting paid?

If a police officer threw someone up against a wall, it was probably because they were noncompliant or being aggressive towards the officer. Also, police officers don't just shoot someone they pull over "just because the last one got away". That is an absurd statement.

A police officer has a very difficult job to do. The main goal is to go home safely each night. Yes police officers do have to protect and serve, sometimes it takes their life, but remember police officers have families too. A police officer never knows what they are going to encounter whether it be a gun, knife, brass knuckles etc. A police officer has to act quickly and rationally to make these split second decisions.

The video suggested the force was excessive.

Conversely, getting your a*s kicked is an occupational hazard associated with being drunk and disorderly.

This video is at the station not out in the streets!! And this man is sitting on a bench handcuffed.. Sorry this is one case that the cops are CAUGHT ON TAPE!!!!!

Thank you Motleycrue. I thought I was seeing things when I watched that tape (according to sports fan). I think that if the police are that stressed, they need to take a time out or vacation or something. Don't take it out on someone who cannot defend themselves. The guy was probably drunk and was talking trash to them, but that is no reason to paralyze him.

I didn't see the video. However, most police officers aren't going to throw a man to the ground just because. He had to have been doing something or putting the officers at risk. Many departments have cameras in booking. Yes, there are bad cops out there that are on a power trip. That is unfortunately the case, but some are that way. Also, police officer have problems with criminals in the department as well...it just isn't out on the street. I personally would never take someone down in our booking because the room is so small...also as a precautionary so they don't hit the wall desk etc with any body part. If the guy was that out of hand, the cop could have gone to a baton or o.c. whether it was a bad judgement call, I am not going to say either way.

Also, my husband said he did see the video. Unless you guys were watching a different video, the guy wasn't handcuffed and WAS going after the cop who was going to do the intoximeter on this guy. The guy was drunk and high and those are the toughest ones to rationalize with because they don't care. He even admitted on the news that he was in the wrong...that is a pretty darn good admission if you ask me.

My, my, my...Wi_Sports_Fan, what are u thinking. I am sorry to have to say this but you seem to be completely nieve and apparently you have never experieced any unjust by the Milwaukee D*&^ Department. They got caught and the video tells it all. The man was handcuffed and what he admitted to was being loud and using profane language, NOT ACTING AS IF HE WAS GOING TO HIT THE OFFICER! Of course the office would say that he needed to defend his unprofessional behavior.

I saw it on the 10pm News last night. In order for a police officer to do the decentralization that the officer did, and I know for a fact, the guy couldn't have been handcuffed. That just come with working in the job...you are right I haven't experienced anything by Milwaukee cops and I don't live in Milwaukee County. No I am not naive because I do have a great understanding of how law enforcement works...a little FYI. Cops deal with profane people all the time, and that is unjust reason to take someone down. If a cop did something wrong I would say that he did...however, maybe he could have done another activecountermeasure besides a decentralization. In the video last night, that I saw, you could clearly see that he was unhandcuffed because his hands were above his head...can't do that if you are cuffed. The audio wasn't good in the tape so nobody really knows what was exchanged for words.

Like I said previously, the mad admits he was WRONG!

Right, and like I said he was wrong for being loud and profane. I cant see a cop using excessive force on someone that displays that behavior. I can see if the person became physcial with the cop however that was not the case.

Well the bottom line is that what he did was not justified to be put into a ceramic tile wall and laughed at...It dont matter if he was cuffed or not in the video you cant really tell but his hands or arms are going after the copy for the copy to think that his life is at risk. The officer was wrong for his actions and the officer taught that guy a good lesson!!! Did you watch the video when they showed how this man has to live with a livn nurse and has a device that lowers him into bed or where ever to get him out of his wheelchair.... Crimals that kill or rape dont even get a sentence like that..... Just think if your loved one ended up like that your husband, parent, or child... Its a very sad story..... That officer needed a vacation or he is not that special kind of person that can handle this line of work.......

Montleycrue-

I NEVER said that what he did was right. If this cop has a conscience, he is going to feel guilty for the rest of his life. Paralyzing someone is completely terrible and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. No I didn't see the video of how he has to have a live-in nurse. I think you and I are starting to agree. You are right, some people aren't meant to be police officers as some have a "heavy hand" etc. This job requires a great amount of DISCRETION and some people escalate force well before it is needed. I hate to say it, but Milwaukee police (at least I believe it was Milwaukee) are giving a black eye to all police officers in the entire state.

I love to Golf (not very good, but working on it). I love animals. I have cats, a bird and a dog. I'm 40ish, but look 28 (ha ha). I love thrift stores and can spend 2 hours in a grocery store. Most people don't like to grocery shop, but I use coupons and check the isles for all the good deals.
