SYNOPSIS BY FOX 6 METEOROLOGIST ROB HASWELL
High pressure right over us today will mean light winds and sunny skies. However, with a slight breeze off the lake, the lakeside areas will once again today be a bit cooler. Inland expect mid 70s with low 70s by the lake.
Tomorrow we warm to the upper 70s and low 80s on sunny skies. Once again high pressure will keep it calm.
Sunday is another calm day for the most part but a warm front pushing east might give us some storms by Sunday night.

I was really bummed that there were no rain totals on the news after the rain on Wednesday night (or anytime for that matter). I'd like to see some citywide totals so I can determine if I need to whip out the sprinkler or not and water my lawn. And no, I don't want to have to go online to do it.

Well early in the day there was just a small thunder here and lighting there but around 6:00pm a microburst { a strong localized air current that hits the ground and spreads, causing wind to rapidly change direction and speed }. It took down trees and power lines. When it was currying you couldn't even see outside it was like a white wall with leaves and branches. The microburst was strong enough to shake our house and lift a tree and roots out of the ground. We recently found out that it only hit only 2 city blocks in a straight line to the lake which made the lake decrease 5 ft here and increase on Michigan’s side then increase and extra 5ft here. They say it'll level out eventually. We were just in aw that all this happened in a matter of 15 mins. All we can do now is hope that thing will get fixed in time for the 4th of July. All this has happened in Racine, Wisconsin on the eastside near Racine counties down town area.

Happy 4th!
I am looking forward to this 4th of July more than the last few because for the first time this year we're going to the fireworks! With my crazy hours, I haven't be able to go in years past but this year the whole Haswell family will be taking in the festivities because it's on a Friday!
That plus the fact that my kids will be in the parade in our little town as part of the T-ball league makes this an extra fun 4th for us.
Interestingly our very first 4th of July here in the U.S. was rather uneventful. Not because we didn't feel like a part of the holiday but more because we really didn't know what to expect and where to go for fun!
At the time we'd only been living "south of the border" - as we Canadians say - for about 6 months so we didn't know too many local folks. Up to that point, our only expereience with Independance Day was via popular television shows and movies! That of course gave us a rather enhanced view of what happens on the fourth. We didn't expect to have to make any plans what-so-ever! We thought we'd just step out the front door and there'd be parties on every corder! I think we kind of exptected to go to sleep on the 3rd and wake up to a bunting clad. red white and blue holiday on the 4th! Of course that didn't happen but it's a fun little story that we look back on these many years later.
Here's hoping you have a fatastic time this July 4th!

Yesterday's cold front passed pretty much on time and we are now moving into cooler and more stable air.
We can expect sunshine today and for the next couple of days with low dewpoints and slowly warming temperatures over the next 2 or 3 days.
Today with a NE breeze, lakeside areas will stay quite cool with highs in the 60s. If you are going to the fireworks or Summerfest you might need to bring a sweater or jacket as we expect to drop into the 50s with a breeze later tonight. Also note that while we are cooler than average, there will be a great deal of sun and that can still burn your skin. Today's UV rating is in the very high range. Take care.
Tomorrow and through the weekend we warm up nicely with more sunshine. Storms are back in the forecast by Monday.

Today, I went to the hair salon. Got a trim-- and well, the works. On my way to work, it started to rain and the humidity was thick... I parked my car, walked into the television station and I just knew... my hair did not look the way it did when I started my journey. The slightest humidity cause the frizzies. What's a girl to do?

A cold front moving at a relatively quick rate will drop across WI today and cut into our area this afternoon and evening. Ahead of the front we'll see a warm, moist and unstable airmass. That means we have all the necessary ingredients for scattered showers and
thunderstorms some of the storms may
become strong and possibly severe. Large hail and damaging winds are the main
hazards.
Behind the front, high pressure takes over from a long stretch. Thursday will be cool and dry but we'll slowly warm into the weekend.

This time of year something very special occurs between the Earth and the Sun. And that something doesn't seem to make sense. In early July each year, the Earth is at Aphelion, the farthest point in its orbit around the Sun. We are approximately 94.5 million miles away from the Sun, as far as we get from the big guy all year, and yet it is our hottest time of year. That doesn't make sense.
Conversely, in early January each year we are at Perihelion, the closest approach to the Sun, 91.5 million miles away - about 7% closer than 6 months earlier. Yet it is the coldest time of year for us. Huh?

Obviously the distance between Earth and Sun does not determine the seasons. Can you guess what does determine our season? (No, it's not the Christmas lights on your neighbor's house - he leaves them up all year, doesn't he?)
The tilt of the Earth on its axis makes all the difference in the world. Our planet is tilted 23.5 degrees from vertical, and this time of year our Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun. The solar rays become more direct as the Sun travels high across the sky and provides us with ample heating.
In early January, even though we are closest to the Sun as we will be all year, our Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun. The solar angle is low as the Sun moves lower across the sky and does not provide nearly as much heating as it does during Aphelion.
So its all in the tilt of the Earth. As you look out at our sunshine on these warm July days, remember that ol' Sol is way out there, as far as it gets away from us during the year. And while you and your friends are sweating away this summer, you can explain to them that if we were in the Southern Hemisphere and tilted toward the Sun right now, we would really be hot.
By the way, the Southern Hemisphere isn't outrageously hot during our summer even though they are tilted toward the Sun. Remember it's winter down there right now. But the Southern Hemisphere is nearly all water - yep, a ton of ocean and not nearly as much land as the Northern Hemisphere. Ocean water has a high heat capacity and can absorb a lot of heat without heating the air. Land, on the other hand, heats up quickly with sunlight and rapidly heats the air above it, too.
The great paradox of nature appears each year in early July and early January. It is a reminder of the delicate balance in the universe. Our seasons are just a tilt away.

Quick look at the latest run of the numerical prediction models shows the forecast scenario to be right on the money so I won't make any changes to my previous outlook.
Biggest question is in the Friday through Sunday period. The models are showing weak northwest flow aloft with a hint of some embedded waves of vorticity (spin) at 500mb (approx. 18,000 feet above the ground). If this were the case, we might see more periods of clouds and perhaps some showers for the holiday weekend.
But these features are weak and I'm not too confident on their existence. So for now I will keep the Friday - Sunday period dry and sunny.
