For years Diesel was about 25 cents cheaper than regular unleaded. In the past 5 years it has skyrocketed to about 90 cents more than Regular and about 50 cents more than premium...just yesterday Diesel went up to$4.13 a gallon ( an increase of 14 cents) and regular stayed at $3.29.

How has the price of diesel out surpassed unleaded ? Did they start making it differently ? Is there that many more diesel trucks on the road ?

I think we are getting hosed on that deal personally Because when Diesel goes up we all pay more for everything ?

This price gouging needs to end.

Much like gasoline, diesel fuel has been undergoing some changes over the last 20 years. For many years diesel engines belched black, smelly smoke. That's just the way it was. Along with technological improvements to the diesel engine came "low sulfur" diesel fuel. This helped cut down on the smoke and the smell which made diesel engines more attractive to automobile manufacturers. More recently we have been introduced to "ultra low sulfur" diesel fuel, which is designed for "newer" diesel engines. The problem for "older" diesel engine owners is nobody sells plain old "low sulfur" diesel anymore. In our zeal to create a cleaner environment we have created an excuse for oil companies sock it to us at the pump. So, there is a reason why the cost of diesel fuel has outpaced the cost of gasoline. Much like reformulated gas and E85, I don't think it's justified.

My last diesel engine was in a 2005 Silverado crew cab pick up with duallies. That was my baby, trubo diesel rocks! Now my diesel is that of a 1991 Chevy Blazer. A much slower, "International Harvester" type engine. With this nasty Winter we had, that truck had to be plugged in every night at bedtime. Give me a turbo diesel any day!
