Last night my son and I had a discussion about why the Government is so set against affordable energy. My son, who turned 18 in Feb. said he will be voting this year if he can understand what each candidate and party were about. He asked me many questions that I simply had no answers for, other then the obvious. He asked about why we went to war, and why the prices of everything we buy has jumped so incredibly high, so fast.  He asked me why our street is filled with pot holes even though we pay so much in taxes.  He asked me why you have to pay taxes on your home every year when anything else you buy has only a one-time tax?

Politicians are constantly selling the public this notion that they are working towards affordable health care for all Americans. They also talk about lowering taxes and cutting wasteful spending. They are requiring automakers to produce cleaner running vehicles to help the "So-Called" greenhouse gas reduction. With all this going on, we have the ability to have affordable energy right here at home. No dependence on other countries to sustain our way of life.

We as a nation must take control and let our leaders know who elected them and who they now represent. We need them to allow the exploration, drilling and refining of the vast oil reserves within our own borders. Stop doing nothing and collecting more and more taxes off the backs of Americans. Our history shows that we embarked to this nation to get away from the taxation. Millions of people have died to keep this freedom in place, it is called the US Constitution.

It is one thing to run on a platform of reform and change, it is another to actually realize it. I want to see my Representatives do more to protect me. I want to be able to support my family and live in peace. I want my neighbors to be as respectful to me as I am to them. That isn't to much to ask is it?

Hi Mr. Wolfman07 & son:

In my opinion, "energy" has become a political football.

I am sure your son has heard all about Global Warming&Climate change. If you want to understand why things the way they are today, we have to consider some history.

Over the past several decades there has been a very strong and growing environmental movement which has villified oil & fossil fuels due to the fact that its usage gives off CO2.

The man made global warming theory assumes that an increasing amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has/will lead to catastrophic climate change.

These groups have spent alot of money on politicians, and gotten alot of favorable press coverage to the point that it has been just assumed by alot of folks have never questioned it that we HAVE to cut down on CO2 emissions or we will all DIE.

As a consequence, it has simply not been allowed by politicians to continue to pursue domestic increases in oil, or in refining capacity.

In my opinion, the prices we are paying for gas/food is a direct result of global environmental alarmism.

I would refer you to a featured political blog in which I have posted a letter by Wisconsin Senator Kohl to a constituent who asked a question very similar to yours.

I think you may find it helpful.

I have to agree with your son. There are so many questions and no answers. Nothing makes sense any more.

Actually, Dose, if you track the money, the 'campaign for global warming' has not been heavily funded as you claim. There has been more funding in the US to support the whole 'can you prove global warming exists' campaign starting in the 90's. Literally billions of dollars have been spent on propaganda to get conservatives, and even some liberals to think that global-warming and the environment are 'not a big concern'. The reasoning was that when the Kyoto Protocol was supposed to be signed, Clinton thought that the measures would have hurt our economy at the time, and he realized that congress wouldnt accept it. Rather than stepping up on the matter, he buried it, and started the whole system of propaganda with 'other scientists', paid by the government, who say 'global warming cant be proven, and may not be true'. Many leading scientists on global warming have been gagged in the process as well. All you have to do is look around at the facts. We have acid rain. We have high levels of smog in major US cities. There are plenty of other things that do suggest that at the very least, burning an olympic size swimming pool of oil every 15 seconds might not be a good idea. Take whichever viewpoint you may, but even if you throw the whole environmental concern out, you still have the whole foreign dependence issue.

The dependency issue wouldn't be there if our government privatized the creating of new refineries. Once up and running, you drill. Starting here in the U.S., we begin to lesson the dependency on foreign oil and keep the wealth here at home. Keep searching for cleaner ways to produce our energy with the proceeds of the new drilling wealth. All it takes is a start. But for anyone to say that it isn't possible or necessary, I say you walk around with that sign on your back and listen to how people confront you.

Mr. Hahnmeister:

You've gotta be kidding if you think:

More money has been spent on research which in its conclusions don't support global warming.

Since 1993, total US, UN, and EU dollars spent on Global Warming research amounts to 80 BILLION dollars.

Mr. Hahnmeister: I would say we can agree to disagree, but that wouldn't change the fact that you are incorrect.

Want $'s, promote global alarmism.

There is alot more money to made with position right now than arguing against it.
