The parents of the 11 year old are trying to use prayer as an excuse for murder.  This innocent young girl had a long life to look forward to but it was snuffed out by two parents who are using "prayer" as an excuse for murder.  To say that prayer could ever explain neglect is absurd.

All it took was a shot that would have saved this little angle from weeks of pain and agony.  Priests, Rabbi's, and all other clergy would have taken their child to the doctor for the help they needed instead of thinking that God would fix the problem.  I can not believe that our liberal media is actual reporting about the reason this happened is because of their faith.  There is no religion in the world that would agree with this.  God gave us doctors to help us in the event illness would fall upon us.  So to say that prayer alone would change the outcome of their daughters plight is simply unforgivable.

Their obscene negligence needs to be addressed with the strongest of mans law, prison.  It  is truly reprehensible that they would try and justify their conduct by saying that they were praying that god would intravene and save their daughter.  It would be more believable if they said they couldn't afford the cost of medical treatment then it is to say that god was their only option.  It is appalling to even suggest that.  There is a reason why the United States is like no other country in the world, we help each other.  Did they seek out spiritual guidance in this matter?  If they did, they would have been told to take her to the doctor.

This is a cop-out excuse that should be met with a prison sentence.  You can not take upon yourself to decide what is right or wrong when dealing with the potential of death lurking overhead.  We have laws for this very reason.  I say through the book at them and make it hurt so that others will never make this life or death decision again in the name of religion.

Sick, just sick.  I wonder if the mother went to the hospital to have her during child birth, and was under the care of a doctor.   If so, their defense should be thrown out the window and then I would guess insanity would become their plea.  Prison!!!!!

Religion should never be used as an excuse for child abuse or murder. I agree that these people should be in jail - not sitting at home with their other kids. From what I have heard neither parent still believes they did anything wrong. The mother thinks Satan was punishing her.

Even if they did not have the money a hospital will not turn away a patient. There is no excuse for what happened and hopefully both parents will have plenty of time to think about it while serving their jail sentances. I have said it before - I have no sympathy for them. My sympathies are for their poor daughter and their remaining children (who should not be with them).

This is just so tragic - as a parent myself, my heart is broken for the senseless death all in the name of fricken "religion" (not bashing religion at all -- Im bashing the parents for
actually thinking the hand of God was going to come down and heal this poor angel)I hope these
parents get the stiffest sentence allowed!! This little angel should have been in school today instead of a grave. God Bless Her Siblings!!

"God gave us doctors to help us in the event illness would fall upon us."

Thank you!

For one... I heard early on when this story broke, they do NOT have an affilation with a church and neighbors and friends were saying they did not know them to be overtly religious people. And I know few Religions outside of Scientology and Jehova's wintesses that don't believe in medical intervention.

So I don't believe for one second this was about religion and the hope for religious intervention.

And for another thing... this reminds me of the story my Great Uncle who was a priest, told his congregation every Easter.

--------

There was a woman who lived alone in a 2 story house who loved god and always had faith in his works.

One day there was a massive storm that threatened floods.

A police officer pulled up and told her to grab what she needed and come with him to safetly.

She refused saying "The lord will protect me. I have faith in him."

After trying to coax her to come with him, the officer gave up and moved on to the next house.

The rains came and it did eventually start to flood. waters got so high they were up to her second story window. A boat came by with a fireman and he told her to hurry and get into the boat... her house would be taken over by water and she needed to evacuate.

But as before she told him... "The lord will protect me. He hears my prayers and he will save me."

Finally the water got so bad that her house collapsed, and she had to cling to the roof for dear life.

Just then a helicopter came by and lowered a ladder. a Resc

a rescue worker climbed down and told her to grab hold. But she said...

"The lord saves. Not you... if you believe in him he will save us all. I will wait for him to save me."

That night, she drowned.

When she awoke in heaven, she walked up to God and said... "Lord, I had faith in you, I believed in you with all my heart, and you said whoever believeth in you will be saved. Why did you let me drown? Didn't you hear my prayers?"

God said...

"Child... of course I heard you... But what else did you want me to do? I sent you a Police officer, a Boat and a Helicopter but you turned all of them away!"

OK are you ready for this one? now in this world one thing that is missing is faith, now don't get me wrong I would haven taken my child to the doctor, but I can't knock the next persons faith. I comend the parents 100% and I really don't expect the world that created themselves to understand. Have you ever heard be careful what you ask for? That child's parents prayed to God for a complete healing without the aid of medicine, and He did just that, the girl is no longer sick or in pain, and never will be again. So this is a perfect proof that God do listen and answer our prayers. Now as to what should happen to the parents, its really not my call or yours. Who are we to judge someone's life? One thing you can be sure is that what ever happens is what God wants to happen, and I pray for there strength, and there faith to continue. Please if your faith is not where it need to be please don't put down the next person because there's is.

That's stupid.

If God wanted the child to die he would have taken her even if they got her help.

A true religious person knows that God gave us free will, and the means needed to help ourselves.

Its up to us to use what he gave us. Again going back to the story..

God created the men and women who become police officers and fire fighters and rescue volunteers.

It is up to you to decide if you want to take God's help, or will sit there waiting for a miracle.

There's an old saying...

God helps those who help themselves. If you believe God creates life, then you have to believe God created the doctors to give life saving medicines, So why would you not accept that help? If God made them... and if God has a plan for everyone, and his plan was to lead doctors into the path of medicine... why would you not accept the help of a doctor that God created for you?

And again.. you're missing the point.

According to friends and neighbors, they were not exactly religious people, they were not affiliated with a church, and the whole "prayer" thing came up after they watched their child SUFFER and die.

You know why God took the child?

Cause her parents allowed her to SUFFER despite all the help he has already given us. Just because we don't see God in doctors, doesn't mean he doesn't have a hand in what they do.

I think the whole "god will save us" argument is stupid.

If you can't use what God gave you, why should he lend you a helping hand?

Its like saying, I have faith in God, but I don't have faith in his plan or in his creations.

yes the child was saved, from the suffering at the hand of her parents, not from the suffering at a very treatable illness that God gave the means to treat.

he created the men and women who became doctors
Created the scientists who made the medicines
Created the earth that provided the medicines.

So you're saying God's work was useless, he should do everything for us? Well then let me just sit back and do nothing for myself.

I have faith God will go downstairs and get me a can of soda right now.

Come on.

Well, this is an example of where liberals should get their way. We have to decide as a nation (or state rather), on which side of the line we fall on with this issue, and create a policy to back it. This isnt an issue we can stradle the line on. I agree, both sides of the argument are valid... just like gun control IMO. But we have to decide which we will put first. The thing that bugs me is that this was a minor who died. If it was an adult who had decided this for herself, thats one thing, but she may have grown up to reject those ideals anyways. If she had the chance to live to adulthood, her own choice might have been to go see a doctor. Since her parents choice took away her own in the end, thats where I find the fault, and I think that social services should be able to step in and demand the child see a physician. It might seem like an intrusion, but its for the child's own well being. If she had made it to adulthood and decided that 'God would heal her', then that would be her choice. Just because satanists might want to kill someone in the name of religion doesnt make it legal. Makes me think of child-support in many ways. Parents might not want to pay, or to get it, but its not about them and their relationship with the other parent... its about the well-being of the child. When I was growing up, my parents divorced, and rather than take the child support, my mother gave it up so that my father couldnt demand visitation (not that he was bad or anything, she was just upset). Now that I am older, I asked her 'what gave you the right to do that?' Afte

After all, that wasnt money for her, but for me, and all those times growing up when I couldnt do things 'because there wasnt enough money' made me think how much that extra $17,000 a year might have really helped considering my fathers income was many times that of my mother's as a teacher. Its not about the parents rights... its about doing whats right to protect the kids. We do have laws like that that put religion second to faith and beliefs. We are supposed to be a secular nation after all, so allowing 'faith' to determine the legal outcome of this wouldnt be right. You kill someone, you pay the price... no matter what.

In my opinion anyone who's faith leads them to believe prayer will cure the sick is foolish. Now I am not saying don't pray for someone who is sick, just don't expect prayer alone will cure them. Who would follow a faith that preached against medical care? Talk about brainwashing people! Any individual in their right mind would have seen that this child would have gotten the proper medical attention. I read the article in the Journal/Sentinel yesterday and it was absolutely sickening that people could be so stupid. Their child couldn't walk, her legs were thin and blue, she fell off the toilet, she had labored breathing! The mother thought her daughter was under "spiritual attack"! Oh please, these people need a real dose of reality. I hope these parents spend a good portion of the 25 yrs. in jail!!!

wolfman, i am so glad you posted this blog. i agree with you 125%. in court, from what i gather i heard on fox6, is that they are charged with 1 count each 2nd degree murder. what i do not understand is this:: why in the hell did they get their 2 children back in the first place? when i heard that the kids were returned to them, i was SO pissed off. what if that would happen to them if they had a medical condition like the 11 year old had and they refuse medical treatment for those kids as well? i agree that prayer does not work alone. THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THEIR DAUGHTER TO A STINKING DOCTOR AND GIVEN A SHOT TO SAVE HER LIFE FOR GOD SAKES! i truly believe in my heart that the parents of that kid should have the book thrown at them and be thrown in prison without the possibility of probation or parole. those kids should not have to suffer like their sister had to suffer. those kids should have been taken away from them completely. i truly believe that their parents killed their sister by not taking her to the doctor. as always, great job on the posting of this blog. thanks for letting me vent on this issue.

No problem. And as for SHEANGEL, That was the stupidest point I have ever heard. I was going to delete it but then I thought that people need to see exactly what others in our society actually think like. So you are saying that if I refuse to feed my child because I believe that through prayer, God will feed them for me? Or that in some way her dieing was Gods will? Your complete ignorance amazes me. Read the bible, read the ten commandments and tell where in there it says it is okay to kill in God's name. I believe it is reverse since parents are granted the gift of life and are responsible for that gift until such time as that gift can assume that control.

Don't get me wrong, prayer is essential for spiritual wellness and peace. Please don't the mistake in believing that any one religion can or will ever supersede another. Since religion is a belief, a feeling, a love for all that is pure and righteous. But it can never and will never replace the responsibility we parents are given when given this precise gift of a child.

You my friend are as ignorant as these parents involved. I just hope you have no children.

Its sounds crude and all, but maybe the parents should be shot in a semi-critical location, and when they ask for help, we can just tell them that they should pray harder so God will heal them. Maybe then they will get it.
