So what do the Packers do now ??  Brett Favre has the "itch" to come back and play.  That fact alone gets fans and media stirred up about the possibility, while giving the quarterback the opportunity to gauge reaction without being on the hook for expressing anything concrete.  While there are certainly those who feel that Favre's long and glorious run should just end, there are just as many who would take him back in the Green and Gold in a heartbeat.  The Packers organization is now put in the position of having to take the emotion out of the situation and make an astute football decision.  Assuming Favre actually follows through on his desire to scratch that "itch", here is what the Packers should and should not do.  Do not release him - that gives Favre complete control of where he goes.  Do not allow the situation to be lingering when training camp starts - that puts every coach and player in the position of having to answer questions about it, which is a losing situation for every guy.  Do not let the public see your coach or g.m. rolling his eyes over this new / old issue.  You know they were doing just that.  Do find out once and for all what Favre himself is going to do, not what he might want to do, not what his family wants him to do. Then you make this decision - can you live with being the bad guy(s) who turned him away ?  If not, reinstall him as your starter and hope for a magical situation (after all he's been a part of those before).  However, if so, there are two choices: trade his rights to a team you select and for an offer you deem worhy or, and this takes major guts, put him on your roster and make him your third quarterback at 12 million dollars a year until and unless you need him.  And if your decision is to trade him, make that decision as public as possible - put the onus on other teams.  Shift the focus of this distraction to teams like the Bears and Vikings.  Can you imagine the clamor of the fans of those teams to get Favre.  Don't trade him there, but get them stirred up.  Again, remember that to this point, this is still conjecture.  Just as it was conjecture when we all had "breaking news" during the playoffs of Favre's decision to return in 2008.  Remember the family get-together at the ice cream store ?? That conjecture didn't pan out - this latest may not, either.

OH Heck!, ......just let him come back.

If he fails, then we told you so. If he wins a Lombardi Trophy, then you still the main man!

This is Rodger's team in the sense that the Packers have pretty much revamped their offense to take into account Rodger's scrambling ability. If Favre wants to scratch his itch, invite him back. However, make it clear that the offense as it stands now is the offense that is to be run. If Favre can beat out Rodgers in the "new" version of the offense, so be it. I don't see this happening, however. Favre does not possess the scrambling ability of Rodgers. However, if you were to choose a backup to Rodgers, who would it be??? Favre or perhaps Jon Kitna??? I would take the couch potato version of Favre any day of the week over Kitna. Enough said.

Don't you have that backwards?
Rodgers doesn't have the scrambling ability of Favre.
Go watch old video.
Favre is the king of scramble. He's get you the ball on his way to being almost sacked. Rodgers barely takes two steps back. The only change they had to do to the offense is to have more hand-offs so Rodgers doesn't have to leave the pocket.
At this point, I'd rather they release Favre and just let him play where ever. Watching Favre play is like magic and I'll turn on whatever team he's on and watch him do it.
If the Pack did assign him the back-up spot it would be like a riot at games. The fans would call for Rodgers to be sat down just so they could see Favre play.
I actually hope he just stays retired and enjoys his family.

I say just let Favre come back. Just because he Aaron Rodgers is now QB Captain doesn't mean Favre can't play. He can play, he'll just be a 3RD or 4TH Back-Up QB not only if Aaron Rodgers gets injured or tired, but to help out as much as he can.

Just because he done broke every record in the NFL doesn't mean his history can't extended because it'll just make him look much more better. Four 17 Years with the Packers, the Packers wouldn't even be the Packers if it wasn't for all of Favre's work. Yeah we could've went to the Superbowl and all and he choked up by throwing the pass to the wrong person, but we know he is in the game for one reason and one reason only and that's to win.

Records don't mean nothing to him (unlike it does to the fans). Winning is what he is more focused and concerned about and that should be all of his teammates.

If Brett can and find some way to "unstitch the itch", then we got ourselves a hell of a better chance. Besides, he only had 2 years left on his contract and just because he is on the Reserve Retirement List doesn't mean he can't come back and play.

Guys like Brett Favre, Mark McGuire, Michael Jordan, Steve Williams AKA "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, ETC... they all have a passion for one thing and one thing only and that's to do what they do best by keeping you as the fans whether if it's on the Gridiron, the Diamond, the Hardwood, or a 20x20 Squared-Ring.

Ted Thompson should just a fact that without Brett Favre, his job wouldn't be where it is at, because no matter how much Brett (Favre) and Ted (Thompson) may not like each other and butt heads or don't say anything to each other throughout an entire season, #4 does all he can to put Green Bay to the top of the list and perhaps #4 can probably do it again.

After Ted Thompson's remarks spoken via by the media through Local and National Televison his Candy A*S out to be the one without a job and go somewhere else or just be on the sidelines and retire. How disrespectful to one of the greatest of all time in Professional Sports History.

It's Brett Favre's decision if he wants to come back and no one elses. If his wife and kids and his mother and the rest of the family supports him and decides that's what he wants to do and the fans can his name like "The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment" (now in Show Biz), then it's his call to go back to the league or just lay down and relax.

If Michael Jordan can do it two or three times, and Hulk Hogan and the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair can do it, then you know Brett Favre can have the ability to do it and finish up those two years on his contract. I wouldn't let it go to waste. I'll rack up on the last of the money I can for those last 2 years left and then end it there, but that's just me...
