Yes, the Tooth Fairy is about to visit the Haswell house for the first time!

With all the other excitement in our lives - new baby and all - we weren't quite prepared for this next step in our oldest child's life. We brushed it off when he complained about tooth pain when he was eating an apple and then one day he says, " Hey look what my tooth can do" and proceeds to show us a tooth that's perpendicular to the rest of his mouth!

So then we thought, "how much does the Tooth Fairy give these days?". We'd heard everything from a dollar to 10 dollars and more! I got a quarter!

We've actually decided to go with an idea we found on line that involves foreign coins with a little story about how kids in other countries celebrate when they lose their baby teeth! We thought it would be a bit more memorable and would get around explaining why his tooth fairy brought a dollar and little Jimmy Richpants got 20 bucks for his molar!

How do you handle the Tooth Fairy tradition?

How much do you give and do you have any cool traditions?

Let me know!

I give a buck for all teeth with no cavitys. Now my boys are 11 years and they have been loosing their baby teeth for the past four years. Right now they know their is no tooth fairy, so they give me the tooth and I give them a dollar at that time. Their silly boys.

Jimmy Richpants (LOL). That's awesome! When I was young, I received a $1 and that was it. I had to leave my tooth underneath my pillow before receiving the money. That's always tricky, trying to explain to a son or daughter why somebody received more than they.

I remember in elementary school there was this one little snotty punk who gave everybody problems. He was the typical bully (beat up kids for lunch money, stabbed people with the sharp end of pencils, never shared a seat with anyone on the bus, always got into trouble with the teachers, etc.) Anyway, the day after St. Nick arrived one year, I asked him what he received in his stocking certain that it was a nice big fat well deserved lump of coal for all his misdeeds. To my intense chagrin, I discovered that he received a pair of cross country skiis. I never once got in trouble in all my years during elementary school and received candy and fruit. Go figure.

So, I think it is important to keep the tradition as magical as possible. There will always be some kid down the street who eats from a silver spoon. Children experience the emotion of wonder far more easily than adults. I think personally whichever tradition feeds that sense of wonder is well worthwhile to maintain.

The tooth Fairy brings $10 for the FIRST lost tooth, but after that, they only get $1.

Heck when I was growing up I got 25¢ from the tooth fairy BUT if I was smart & waited for Grandma to pull it out I got $1.00 from her & then 25¢ from the tooth fairy. I know a friend of mine that got a butt of a rifle in his mouth that knocked out a bunch of teeth in VietNam. He picked up his teeth & sent it to his mom and told her to stick it under his pillow & that the tooth fairy had better pay up!

RH
Don't forget the wand with the star at the end!
Just remember all this fun & try to take as many pictures to remember events like these. Unfortunately, they grow up so fast and before you know it they are out of the house either married or in college.

My kids get between 1 and 5 dollars and a sweet letter from the tooth fairy on pastel paper with a cute boarder telling them how their teeth are going to be used to make fairy dust. It worked great for my son, so far my 7 year old is telling everybody but me she knows there is no tooth fairy, so hopefully we can carry on that tradition with the little one. I love writing those letters.

I think our daughter "plots" when her teeth are going fall out!! (LOL) It always seems when she looses a tooth WE ONLY HAVE A $5 BILL OR LARGER!!! One night we actually had to find a neighbor who had change for a $20!!

My husband and I almost got "busted" a few months ago...We walked into her room and next thing ya know IM ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING HYSTARICALLY -- I HAD TRIPPED OVER SOME BOOKS -
Needless to say she woke up and asked "whats going on?" Dad QUICKLY reponded -"we thought we heard the tooth fairy" (i'll never live that one down) We heard the tooth fairy alright
she was hitting the floor!!!! I must say as a Parent -- These Holidays that involve "magic" are my favorite! I just love the sheer innocence of children!! Although this past Easter was HORRID! My husband and I woke to sobbing.......THE DOG ATE HER WHOLE BASKET AND WE HAD TO GO TO ER FOR DOGS!! Thank-God Grammie
to the rescue.........I snuk a quick call to my
Mom and we returned home to find "the Easter
Bunny returned" (Vic our dog is fine just very naughty LOL)

This could not come at a better time. The first 5 kids are all but aware that the Tooth Fairy is no longer available to them. However the youngest is 6 and curious. I would love to start a new tradition just for him. The older ones are well aware of the consequences if they spill the beans for any magical holiday....they lose the opportunity to get gifts at any holiday during the year if they tell. (Teens like "free" gifts so I have been lucky so far.
I would love to know more about where to look for the foreign money one you referenced Rob...it has gotten my attention.. I want unique and fun for the last one in my house...
Thanks for sharing..

Wait--what? The toothfairy isn't real?

JK JK JK

My parents stopped doing the money thing after my first few teeth . . . should have insisted on some moolah after going through two extractions in one day. Oh well.

Kudos to you Mr. Haswell . . . I can't stand the sight of kids wiggling their teeth. If I kid I babysit wants to show me a new loose tooth I chew a hole in my lip trying not to grimace. Yuck.

Maybe the tooth fairy does not like you that much. I know I made good money for my teeth. But don't worry we still love you.

A long, long, time ago in a farmers field far, far away, Rob noticed a change in the wind and became fascinated with the weather. Why you ask? (Pause for you to say "why?") Well, it was at that moment he realized he was downwind of the manure pile on the turkey farm where he grew up! After that he watched the weather very carefully in an effort to save his sense of smell! Okay, that's not entirely true but I did grow up on a turkey farm and I have been fascinated with weather and broadcasting for quite some time. I began my career in radio before making the jump to TV. I worked on Good Morning Toronto. After that, I decided to pursue my dream of living and working in the U.S. and joined Wake Up Rochester in Rochester NY. I spent three years in "Bills Country" before coming to my senses and moving to "Packer-Town!" (GO PACK!) I also spent some time trying to make it big as a comic actor and studied the art of improvisation at Toronto's Second City Theatre with teachers like SCTV's Joe Flaherty! I moved here with my beautiful wife, Tanya, who's the real comedian in the family, my son Noah, who's giving my wife a run for the title of funniest Haswell and my daughter Nyla who is the cutest 2 feet of human being you could ever meet! We're very excited to be living in the great city of Milwaukee and we're looking forward to learning all there is to know about Wisconsin! By the way, where do you buy those cheesehead hats anyway?
