Fox 6 has been running a series on the lack of dialogue on race relations in the Milwaukee area. One of the biggest roadblocks to any kind of dialogue has been and continues to be the apparent unwillingness of the African-American community to accept any criticism of their community by anyone who is not African-American. Any time any negative comment is made about events occuring ing the black community by a non-black, the person who makes the comment is immediately labelled racist and the comment, however true or relevant, is relegated to the trash heap. One example is the Frank Jude case. To hear the African-American community talk about it, this was a planned attack against a totally innocent, upstanding representative of the black community led by racist cops and covered up by their co-workers. The fact that no convictions were handed down against the individuals charged in the incident has been laid at the door of the DA's office and racism. But what really happened?

Jude and Harris, convicted felons, crashed a party of off-duty police officers while Jude was in the process of cheating on his wife (a fact not mentioned in said wife's claim against the City of Milwaukee). After they left, the person throwing the party claims a badge was missing/stolen. A group from the party went outside and found Jude and Harris still hanging around (why?) and confronted them. Since alcohol was involved, the confrontation got out of control and Jude was beaten, resulting in visually-arresting damage to his face and thus guaranteeing extensive, overblown news coverage, particularly by the TV news crews. There were criminal charges presented, trials held, and acquittals given by jurors who were given all the facts availabe, not just those the media decided the public should know to foster the notion that the police are just racist bastards picking on innocent felons.

There has been no blame put on Jude whatsoever; in fact, he has been elevated to near-sainthood by Eugene Kane and others in the media. Not one of them has questioned why a convicted felon would choose to go to a party of off-duty police officers to which he was not invited. Not one of them has questioned why he was cheating on his wife, yet claims all he could think of while being beaten was what would happen to his family. And not one of them has questioned the propriety of Jude's wife seeking $5 million for injuries he suffered while cheating on her. Even Jude's attacking his own mother (is there a more despicable crime?) has been declared by the black community as not his fault, but instead the fault of those who attacked him ( apparently his felony conviction does not indicate any character fault).

As long as the African-American community continues to make heroes of people like Jude (remember that other paragon of virtue Rodney King? The officers were acquitted in that case, so they kept trying them in different jurisdictions until convictions were achieved)and rejects criticism from outside the community, no dialogue can occur, because there is no common ground.

I didn't think you'd get many comments here. While the real reasons Jude was there are unknown nor do we know what goes on at these police after hours parties, what happened to Jude was far beyond just a fight. He was beaten beyond recognition. The cops took it too far and should have paid the price for that. Let's just forget they are cops for a minute. Let's pretend this happened between citizens outside of a bar. Those citizens who beat this guy bloody would have been charged with at least disorderly conduct and spent time in jail along with paying medical bills for the victim. Basically, the cops took it too far.
Am I saying Jude was innocent? Hell no!! Any person that can assault their own parent is not an innocent person. Rodney King was also not an innocent person. But, could both men have been subdued in another fashion? You bet. Did the beatings go too far? You bet. When things got out of hand with Jude the off duty officers should have called for back up and dealt with it in a mature fashion.

I agree that our race relations will never move forward unless blame and finger pointing stops. Groups of people need to be accountable for their actions. But no one deserves blind justice. As far as your argument goes though, you are wrong. The comparisons between Jude and King are 100 fold. King was under the influence of PCP and led police on a high speed chase through the streets of LA. He exited his vehicle in a chemical rage and was a threat to cause serious bodily injury to the officers. That ordeal went bad when multiple officers began beating him with batons and pepper spray. This was all caught on film and a mostly white jury then let the officers off the hook. (wrong decision). In Judes case, he was invited to that party by two young females he had met at a bar earlier in the evening. Jude was with his friend when they got to the party. After one of the officers got on his case about being someplace he wasn't invited, jude informed the girls that he wanted to leave. Upon going outside, a group of the men at the party followed him and accused him of taking their badge out of his bedroom. Reports say Jude responded that he had never entered the room and then he was called a liar and the beating began. Officers that were called to the seen via 911, reported that Jude was still being kicked in the chest and face even though he was already handcuffed. That is where the brutality claim came from.
But irregardless, race relations will never progress until communication begins.

aggravated battery thats what happened to Jude. I hope they all loose there jobs. As far as communicating with people who want to live that way its like trying to make a rock float. Unless you freeze the water it won't work. You may get somewhere in the beginning but then the ice the thaws out, the rock sinks and your right back where you were. Then over years mudd sticks to the rock and it gets bolder and does worse things. Then one day it washes up on shore and blames the sand for being under water for many years and dirty. Then someone comes along and throws it back in the water. I could make this rock story go on and on. Point is there is no changing the inner city problems. You can only do damage control.
Also I see and hear cops doing the most horrible things. Usually the criminal mind is easily manipulated. Its usually easier to trick it than fight it. Then again when your cops are criminals its hard to stop police brutality when they are at a lower level than the people they are arresting.
I guess I'm racist. Oh well call it what you will. All this is sad but there is no helping someone who don't want help and most the blacks in the "hood" don't want white mans help. I once read a bumper sticker that said "Guns don't kill black people, black people kill black people." This is the truth. White people don't need to fix these problems. Black people do. They hate eachother to much to fix it. With that let the damage control begin.

Criminals and insane people kill people.
Because if you look at history, white people tend to be more psycotic in their killings. The majority of serial killers are white, the kids that shoot up schools are white and throughout History most dictators were white. When you hear about crimes commited by blacks it tends to be gang or robbery related. So, if one looks at history, white criminals tend to go crazy and black criminals tend to be "wild". Either way, a killer is a killer. It seems people are forgetting that every nationality has criminals. It is the criminal element that plagues us, not a color.

I don't think race had anything to do in the frank jude case it was the superiority complex of the OFF DUTY officers !They should be fired jailed and sued in civil court !The taxpayers should not have to pay for the actions of individuals ,let those that commited the crime pay !Maybe its time law enforcement provide their own insurence is they show certain charactor flaws !

B5cents is dead on with his example here. Katbird, I don't side with you on this one though. You are right that people kill, not skin color. But we are talking about one on one crimes, Not dictators.

Nothing against Fox Six because News is necessary and really our best way to communicate to the masses. I really believe that media is to blame for a lot of the negativity in our country. Ever since the onset of live tv our nation has become addicted to action and the more negative the action the more we want to know because it is part of our natural instincts of defense! However, just like a person addicted to drugs we have become a nation addicted to what infiltrates the airwaves. I just cringe at the content of video games, television progams, music, and computer stuff that is impossible for anybody to escape. It is horrendous and we just practically have to succomb or disengage from media altogether, which as we all know is just not part of today's modern world. I just hope that one day we could return to the good life. If it would be portryed more in the media then that would infiltrate into our society! Until then we get to choose from detective shows that show nothing but how to be a criminal, live cop shows that also teach how to out smart authority, cartoons that follow the same shoot 'em up genre, not to mention all the party til ya puke reality shows the teenagers empathize with, and all the extreme 'sports' programs that wind up with a bunch of "BLEEP" in the emergency room because they wanted to dive into concrete too or wrestle! I just hope that the government will step in to help direct change. Ok, I have rambled on enough about the negative media infiltrating our society, and getting back to the issue of race relations, I just truely feel tha

Awe, where did the rest of my blog go? It was so good. It should not let me ramble on and on in the comment window if it doesn't show up! I feel jaded:-( I guess that is part of being a newbie to blogging. Anyhow, the point of my above blog is that negativity breeds negativity so let us all be more positve because believe it or not, it too is contageous! PD

Frank Jude, Rodeny King the beating these men took was wrong. And those responsible should be sentence to the max. Was it racist or the actions of over zealous police? Just yesterday a court convicted 3 officers in NY for the shooting of a man leaving a party, he and his friend s were shot at more then 50 times. These officers were both black and white. Is this racist. If my memory is right after the Rodeny King verdict was handed down, a riot ensued and a white truck drive was pulled from his truck and beaten by a group of blacks. One of the defenses to the actions of the people who did the beating was they just got caught up in the mob mentally and they could not help themselves. Is this racist. To me the word Racist has lost the power it once had. It seems like any time someone is treated poorly it is a race issue. And that is not the case.
