So... I'm bad with car rides.

I've noticed lately that I can't quite stay awake in the passenger seat of a car. We can be running to the grocery store for 10 minutes. It doesn't matter. The lids start falling and I can't pick them up.

Hm... maybe it's because of this early morning shift...

But anyway, on long road trips I try to be supportive of the poor driver designated to handle the twists and turns of the road. But sometimes no matter what I do, I can't even begin to fight it... and all of a sudden... 50 miles have gone by.

So, for whoever I may have ridden in a car with in the past few months... it's not you. It's me.

Renee maybe you need to get your thyroid checked. I use to have a really hard time staying awake and just ignored it until it got so bad that even if I was the one driving it seemed so hard to keep my eyes open. Then I finally got diagnosed with thyroid disease.

something about being a passenger in a car puts a lot of people in a meditative state ....kind of like sitting at home on the sofa watching t.v. soon enough i'm off in "wonderland".lol

I agree with Happy, Renee. I also have thyroid disease and had the same problem. It's a simple blood test and they can tell just from that. Are you thirsty often or cold?
That's a couple of the symptoms.
It couldn't hurt to get it checked.
There were a couple of times I shouldn't have been driving.

maybe it is too early for your kids to be up very early in the morning. maybe what you need is a cup of coffee in the morning. maybe it is your thyroid, but i am not sure.

Renee, The same car or any car? I ask because I remember when my friend got carbon minoxide poisoning from a car. Or maybe some diet code red might help?

I have the same condition. I could be the passenger in ANY car, if the trip is more than 15 minutes, I'm out like a light! But I KNOW the reason for my condition, I was a collicy baby and my mom used to have to drive me around until I fell asleep. Somehow, it is still with me. 27 years ago when my husband and I decided to drive to Arizona for our honeymoon, I slept 9/10 of the time that he drove. I only woke up to eat and make potty stops. I couldn't go on field trips either...we would no sooner get on the bus and I was out for the day. I spent a few trips on the bus while everyone was enjoying themselves. And once I am asleep, NOTHING wakes me up.

That's interesting! I actually met a guy who had severe thyroid problems and I asked him about it-- he said he was extremely tired all the time and gained a lot of weight. He told me the test is just a simple blood sample so I think I'll check it out.
