Just read a column that mentioned some comments that the wife of Presidential candidate John Edwards made at a small town meeting of local environmentalists.  There were discussing the way people can reduce their carbon footprint.  And what effort was Mrs. Edwards going to take to reduce their footprint?  Would she cut down on their use of private jets?  No.  Was she going to chance the light bulbs in all of the homes to the new energy saving kind?  No.  Was she going to insist that John switch from aerosol hairspay to pump?  No.  She "will probably never eat a tangerine again."  This is a part of her effort to eat locally and cut down on the damage that is done by transporting food.  I noticed she didn't mention anything about giving up Maine lobster or anything like that.  These people are insane!

WASHINGTON — Constituents called Rep. Peter DeFazio's office, worried there was a conspiracy buried in the classified portion of a White House plan for operating the government after a terrorist attack.

As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, DeFazio, D-Ore., is permitted to enter a secure "bubbleroom'' in the Capitol and examine classified material. So he asked the White House to see the secret documents.

On Wednesday, DeFazio got his answer: DENIED.

"I just can't believe they're going to deny a member of Congress the right of reviewing how they plan to conduct the government of the United States after a significant terrorist attack,'' DeFazio said.

Homeland Security Committee staffers told his office that the White House initially approved his request, but it was later quashed. DeFazio doesn't know who did it or why.

"We're talking about the continuity of the government of the United States of America,'' DeFazio said. "I would think that would be relevant to any member of Congress, let alone a member of the Homeland Security Committee.''

Bush administration spokesman Trey Bohn declined to say why DeFazio was denied access: "We do not comment through the press on the process that this access entails. It is important to keep in mind that much of the information related to the continuity of government is highly sensitive.''

Norm Ornstein, a legal scholar who studies government continuity at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, said he ``cannot think of one good reason'' to deny access to a member of Congress who serves on th

Maybe I'll check out Ron Paul.

I said it in my Al gore= Hypocrite blog. Edwards is a huge phony. Out of all the candidates he is the one that really scares me. I think if he got into the White House we would be in for lots of trouble.

Why is it that some people whould rather point out some miniscule point of how someone doesn't recycle enough... and then ignore how an entire administration has destroyed environmental policy?

Talk about clueless! So its okay to trash the planet so long as you tell everyone thats what you intend to do?

What about all the policies this administration told us and flip-flopped on??? Leave no Child, Healthy Forest, Clear Skies, Patriot Act, and the list goes on like a double roll of charmin. The real hypocrites are the ones to point out a droplet of error while standing in sea of deception.

Phoney??? Look at 1600 Pensylvannia for the dictionary definition.

"The real hypocrites are the ones to point out a droplet of error while standing in sea of deception." Sounds like an exact definition of most democrats. Say a ton of feel good, sound good things but never get anything done. I've been hearing the democrat leaders tell me they are on the poor peoples side and elderly and save the environment and so on since back when my dad was a democrat and I was a little kid but all they have accomplished is to make the poor more dependant on someone else to give them what they need instead of working for it. Nice job Dem's!!!

People like Belial would rather find some miniscule thing Al Gore does and say he is a bad person so global warming is a farce then actually look at global warming for what it is the same for Edwards. I do not care about gaffes from how Bush speaks to Edwards to Gore to Allen and "Macaca" and people that do just want to delude themselves to actual problems and concentrate on personal attacks hoping the issue goes down with them.

Itsasmerch how can the Dems accomplish all this when they are not in power. The Reps have controled congress or the presidency since 1980 for all but 2 years. Funny about the poor itsasmerch because besides the ver, very rich the REps haven't been doing anything for anyone else. The rich get richer poor get poorer and they get more tax cuts cause their rich. So their taxcuts allow them toi hire more waitresses and busboys so the poor get jobs yeah! You have to push people in the direction you want to get them twoards not just show them the way and not just prod them. The two most important means for poor to stop being poor wages and college are both working against them. Unless someone helpes them with those two things they aint going anywhere.

wasn't Clinton in office for awhile??? What have harry Reid and the dems done? Yippie they raised minimum wage to less than most states are currently at anyway.....OK lets say they have had some idea's but couldn't get them passed because of the evil republicans. What are they??? all they do is say they are for the environment and helping the poor and foreign policy, they have no real idea's. Look at the percentages of taxes and who pays them and how much, when a tax cut is put in place we are supposed to leave out the ones that pay the most?? Most "poor" people don't actually pay taxes because at the end of the year they have paid in about $1500 or less and if they have 1 kid it's around $3500 that they get back, 2 kids, over $4000, 3 or more, upwards of $6000 and I say this because I know people that get it. The two most important ways to fight being "poor" is too force them to work not supply more and more programs that make them dependant. Why should college be a right for you or anyone, everyone else has, and had to work for it or earn it and now people want great pay to pay for school so they can make great pay.

Its those pesky facts again... getting in the way Itsy... Yes Clinton was in office... but he had this little lynch mob called congress and a Military Industrial Complex mad as hell with his don't ask, don't tell policy that kept him from accomplishing much of anything. Yes is "advisors" were telling him to use depleated uranium on serbs while giving him bogus intel left and right.... they wanted him to look bad... remember Blackhawk Down?

That said, I have to agree that Dem leadership is an exercize in spineless capitulation... but its better than the GOP's all-out assault on Morality, Decency and Democracy.... Greed is God for today's GOP- didn't used to be- but it is now. And the Dems.... try so hard not to offend anyone that they can't stand for anything... but thats better than standing for the overthow of Democracy any day. We need new leadership, new rules... and they will never change with a Republican led government... maybe not with Dems either, but at least worth a try.

That greed you speak of is what made this country what it is ! Why do the poor believe the rich should pay their way ? If i put in long hours everyday should i not reap the rewards of my sacrifice !Reward those that work hard and let the lazy fend for themselves !Take care of those that truly need the help but kick the trash to the curb!Remove drunks and drug addicts from social security and give it to the disabled that have earned some reward for their hard work !

I would prefer to help fix the drug addicts then throw them out on the street. It is alot tougher to break addictions then you might think. Did you read Times article on addictions.

Nature allows the weak to be killed off,why do we think we should interfere with an adult who has made a bad choice ! I know all about addictions ,i'm raising my grandchildren because of drugs !

What kind of "people" am I demboy? I am pointing out hypocrisy I am not a republican nor a democrat I would point out hypocrisy from any of the candidates. If you have a platform then PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH. I don't find it miniscule that someone that preaches save the environment serves an endangered fish for a large gathering. You speak as if you are the all knowing demboy. Do you know how hard it is to break addiction? have you been addicted? You know this from an article in the times?
When it truly comes down to it none of the dems have a real platform except bash Bush, that is serving us well right now in congress ain't it. A congress that has accomplished squat. yeah yeah the minimum wage thats been coming for years. They preach stop the war but are too chicken to cut off funding, they are spineless wimps. For the record I kind of like obama except for his lack of experience.

I just find the little gaffs insignifigant and I think fixating on them is pointless. Its like the tabloids with celebrities. To be honest with a president that will veto almost anything the Dems want to push through DC voting, environmental legislation, etc, I do not expect alot out of them and will not judge them until they control both congress and the presidency.

The point I'm making is how can you put your trust in someone and vote for them when they are total hypocrites? Its not tabloid its the truth.

Well have you given them a chance to explain or defend themselves before leaping on the bandwagon. Al Gore and Edwards are rich and so are expected to behave as rich people do. They are part of the establishment. Though I am disapointed I do not really care that much because I think it is obvious most politicians are hypocrites and you focusing on their personal lives allows you or anyone else attacking them to avoid the issues and concentrate on them.

Act as rich people act? hahaha Thats rich!! When you are in the public eye your personal life is your your political life, you are just salty because you kneel at the altar of the democrats and they are nothing but hypocrites. To quote one of my favorite songs. "talking to you is like clapping with one hand"
