So it's official, News Corp has completed its sale of WITI, and seven other stations.  The buyer is a group called Oak Hill Capital Partners.  Anyone know anything about this group?  Hey FOX 6'ers, what do you guys think about the sale?  I suppose you probably don't know too much yet, since it was just announced today.  Just curious.

John Coleman, former meteoroligist for WLS in Chicago and founder of the Weather Channel, is speaking out against global warming.  Here is the opening paragraph of an article posted at the ICECAP (International Climate and Environmental Change Assessment Project) website:

"It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus. "

The Nobel committee decided to award "Algore" and his little committee their latest peace prize.  But wait a minute...

I heard that there were hanging chads on some of the ballots!

The elderly memebers of the committee were intimidated by the touch-screen voting technology!

Illegal immigrants were not allowed to vote!

Some kid from Marquette voted twice!

There were polling locations that stayed open past the scheduled closing time!

Michael McGee paid committee members $5 each to vote for "Algore!"

Katherine Harris lied when she certified the results!

The Supreme Court was full of favorable appointees who just gave it to him!

Whatever.  Let him have it.  Let the dems and the press fawn all over him.  This award lost its credibility years ago.  This is the same group that awarded the prize to Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter and Mohamed ElBaradei & the International Atomic Energy Agency.

I recently got an email from a friend telling me that the CO of USMC Regimental Combat Team (RCT) 6 in Iraq, is asking for positive emails to his Marines.  It included an email address to send your message to.  It sounds like a great idea, but I just wanted to make sure it was legit and I wasn't going to end up on a email list for a bunch of porn sites or something.  So after a quick search, I found the following at freerepublic.com:

From Matt at Blackfive:

With combat operations in Iraq as kinetic as they've ever been, the Marines could use your support. No links, just please use the info below at your discretion. At Blackfive, we have been trying to improve our relationship with the Public Affairs Officers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not surprisingly, the Marines have begun a really intense exchange of ideas with us. One Marine Combat Commander embraced our offer of support. One of the requests that they had of us was to attempt to get 6,000 positive and supportive emails - one for each Marine, Sailor and Soldier in the Marine Regimental Combat Team - 6. Grim, our resident thinker and former Marine at Blackfive, has taken responsibility for this project.

From Grim's interview with Marine Colonel Simcock, Commander of RCT-6: http://www.blackfive.net/main/2007/06/roundtable_with.h
tml

COL. SIMCOCK: (Chuckles.) I'll tell you what, the one thing that all Marines want to know about — and that includes me and everyone within Regimental Combat Team 6 — we want to know that the American public are behind us. We believe that the actions that we're taking over here are very, very important to America. We're fighting a group of people that, if they could, would take away the freedoms that America enjoys.

If anyone — you know, just sit down, jot us — throw us an e- mail, write us a letter, let us know that the American public are behind us. Because we watch the news just like everyone else. It's broadcast over here in our chow halls and the weight rooms, and we watch that stuff, and we're a little bit concerned sometimes that America really doesn't know what's going on over here, and we get sometimes concerns that the American public isn't behind us and doesn't see the importance of what's going on. So that's something I think that all Marines, soldiers and sailors would like to hear from back home, that in fact, yes, they think what we're doing over here is important and they are in fact behind us .

The Marines have set up a special email address to send a supportive message to the Marines is: RCT-6lettersfromh@gcemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil . The emails are being scanned by the PAO before being printed and distributed to individual Marines.

And, guess what?, the RCT-6 has a blog at http://fightin6thmarines.vox.com/

AFTER A FEW DAYS, WE HAVE ONLY GOTTEN THE MARINES ABOUT 2,000 EMAILS. WE COULD USE SOME HELP IN GETTING THE WORD OUT.

What do you say folks?  Even those of you who are against the war always say you still support the troops.  So take a quick moment and shoot an email to our marines.

Semper Fi!

Sheboygan County Circuit Judge Timothy M. Van Akkeren has overturned a jury's verdict in the case of Mitchell D. Pask. Pask, a registered sex offender with a long crimnal history, was charged with attempting to lure a 9 year old girl into a shelter at Workers' Water Street Park in Sheboygan. Apparently, Judge Van Akkeren felt that the area was not a "secluded area" as required by the charge! Can you believe it? He's not saying that the guy didn't try to have sex with a 9 year old girl, it's almost like he agrees to that. I guess it's just that he felt the area he was trying to take her to was too public for something to happen. What a fool! How do morons like this get on the bench to begin with?!

Just read a column that mentioned some comments that the wife of Presidential candidate John Edwards made at a small town meeting of local environmentalists.  There were discussing the way people can reduce their carbon footprint.  And what effort was Mrs. Edwards going to take to reduce their footprint?  Would she cut down on their use of private jets?  No.  Was she going to chance the light bulbs in all of the homes to the new energy saving kind?  No.  Was she going to insist that John switch from aerosol hairspay to pump?  No.  She "will probably never eat a tangerine again."  This is a part of her effort to eat locally and cut down on the damage that is done by transporting food.  I noticed she didn't mention anything about giving up Maine lobster or anything like that.  These people are insane!

As much as the press continues to beat us over the head with the President's approval ratings, the latest Zogby poll has Congress at only a 17% approval rating.  At least Bush had about 1/3 giving him a positive response.  Isn't this the Congess that was a referendum on the Bush administration?  If the Democrats have all this power, why aren't they doing anything with it?  And before anyone asks where I got these numbers, here's the link:

No, not Ted Perry.  I'm talking about Ted Kennedy.  It was 38 years ago today (July 18) that Ted Kennedy and Mary Jo Kopechne drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island in Martha's Vineyard.  The car sank into the pond landing upside down.  Ted managed to escape the car.  He then claims to have tried to swim down and help Mary Jo a number of times.  When that didn't work, he sat on the bank for a while trying to think of what to do next.  He walked back to the party (where there was a phone) and brought a couple people back to try and help.  When that didn't work, he decided to return to his hotel.  But it was so late that the ferry had shut down for the night.  So Ted swam across the 500 foot channel.  It wasn't until the next morning that the car and Mary Jo's body were recovered and Ted finally spoke with police.  No autopsy was performed and it was ruled and accidental drowning.

Just saw another one of those smug noeastcoast ads that is trying to keep a casino out of Kenosha.  Is there anyone out there who doesn't realize that the Potawatomi are bankrolling this effort?  Thanks to sweet deals between them and Jim "Bingo" Doyle, they have a lock on casino gaming is southeastern Wisconsin.  Why is it that all the reasons they were giving years ago for their expansion aren't good for someone else?  Do they expect us to believe that the state would not get their fair share of the profits from this new casino (at least as "fair" a share as they are giving up)?  If you think about it, there's probably a number of people from Illinois that wouldn't want to make the extra drive to Milwaukee, but would drive to Kenosha to empty their wallets.  Sounds fine to me.  The only thing the Potawatomi are afraid of is a little competition.

Let's stop all the crying and screaming over Scooter Libby.  Everyone knew it was coming.  And I guarantee he will receive a full pardon before Bush leaves office.  Quite frankly, with his approval rating so low and the fact that he is a lame duck, he has nothing to lose.  The thing that really ticks me off is Hillary complaining about it.  I'm surprised that anyone was still left in the prison system once Billy Boy left office.  In case you need a reminder, here is a list of everyone that Clinton pardoned during his term.  If you want to print it, it is 22 pages long.  The section for everyeone he pardoned on 1/20/01 (his last day in office) is about 8 pages.

It's one step forward and two steps back.  German scientists have announced that worm composting could be doing more harm than good in the battle to save the environment.  When worms are used for composting they produce nitrous oxide gases.  These gases can be "290 times more potent than carbon dioxide and 20 times more potent than methane."  Something to think about before you dump tonight's table scraps into the compost barrel.

It all started with "Who Says You Can't Go Home."  The track from their last album that features the lead singer from country group Sugarland.  But that version wasn't even the main one.  It was buried as the last track under the title "Dirty Little Secret."  Now they've gone and released a full Nashville inspired album.  Let's just admit it, they made a country crossover album.  Let me step back for a moment and say they I have every CD the band ever put out, including "This Left Feels Right" where they rerecorded a number of their hits.  I even enjoyed a few of those.  But even the band has admitted that idea was a mistake.  I have seen the band in concert seven times.  Most recently for their tour in supprt of "Have A Nice Day."  I even got to go on stage once a be a part of the fan pens they have has a part of their set.  One of my favorite Bon Jovi songs is "Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars."  And, as most fans are, I was able to overlook the occassional mistep.  But I listened to this entire album through a stream they are offering through the VH1 website.  What happened!  I'm not expecting them to continue recording songs like "Runaway" or "Roulette."  But come on.  These guys are totally selling out.  Even though most out the girls who were in Aqua Net and spandex 25 years ago, are now soccer moms driving min-vans, that doesn't mean their style as aged that dramatically.  This is just a case of the band picking the most financially lucrative market and catering to it.  Instead of being a band who is true to their fans, they are just another cog in the record industry machine.  This is the first Bon Jovi album that I will NOT be buying.

ABC has announced that Rosie O'Donnell will not be returning to The View when the show returns with new episodes on Tuesday.  They say she requested to be let out of her contract three weeks early.  This is undoubtedly due in part to the huge blowout between her and Elisabeth Hasselbeck this past Wednesday.  It all grew out of O'Donnell's comment the day before of  "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"  Somehow, she was suprised when people rightfully interpreted this as her calling our soldiers terrorists.  Then she got offended when Elisabeth would not defend her ignorant comment.  Good riddance!
