What ever happened to the days where kids had respect for other people?? I watched the mess at Bradley Tech the other night and thought to myself, "my mom would have killed me if I acted like that!" Why aren't our youth more fearful of the consequences of their actions?
When I was a teenager, I could go anywhere in this city and know that someone near by new one or more of my family members and would definately tell anything that I did that wasn't polite or proper. Today, I hear kids cursing, talking loud and abusing the innocent people near them and I often wonder who told them that it was ok to act like that! When did Milwaukee get taken over by the whims and immaturities of minors?
We don't need to live in a police state where sporting events are as regulated as airports. We don't need the public school system to spend too much time and money (public dollars) on something that is the responsibility of these kids' parents! I, for one, am willing to go the extra mile as a parent and actually be involved in my child's life without some authority telling me that I should!?
As we as a city try to figure out what type of punishment should be handed to these few unruly kids, shouldn't we also be trying to figure out how to get parents back into these kids lives? If we're going to spend money on police hours, wouldn't the youth of Milwaukee be better served if we spent those dollars on programs to promote unity, good sportsmanship, responsibility, respect and accountability?

Did anyone catch the story of Sherwin (or Sherman) on Idol lastnight? He was over the age limit for tryouts but had a petition with over 300 signatures asking for a chance...
The story behind it was that he and his "lady" had been together for 20 years when she "came down with cancer". He was trying everything to keep her spirits up and they decided he should go for American Idol. Each day that he came home with signatures on his petition made her smile. Sadly, his "lady" passed away 2 days before the tryout.
This man sang the sweetest song for her and I, like Paula, cried after just a few notes. He sang "You belong to me" for the judges and moved even grumpy old Simon enough to have Simon stand and ask to shake the man's hand!
In the end, this very sweet man, told the camera's that he was a winner. I totally agree!!
