You all remember the Barbie bandits from Georgia who robbed some banks.
Here's a summary of what happened:
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Story?id=3187818&page=1
So one of them were sentenced to 10 years probation, and the other guy 2 years in jail. There were two guys also involved in this bank robbery. The mastermind behind it all was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and a bank teller was sentenced to 5 years prison. These two young men were black. I just believe this stinks of racism. You'd think the person who committed the crime would get more time than the person who told them to do it.
Am I just freaking out, or is there some merit to the argument that race might've played a role in the unequal sentencing.

Hey guys, thought I could use some input from a diverse group of people like yourselves.
Alright so here's the story. I came home after a day of work, and my family was watching one of those true life episodes from either MTV or VH1. The particular episode was about legal immigrants trying to get a start in America. So the main bread winner of the family showed up for his first day of work and needed help on figuring out where on the company property he was to report to. Remember this guy hasn't been living in America for longer than 2 months. So he asks this lady where whatevers(sorry don't remember his job title) report for work. The lady was kept saying no, and then she blurts out I don't speak english.
So I was like what the duece that's pretty messed up. The guy needs some god honest help and he can't get any, because that lady doesn't speak english. And yes this woman did happen to be hispanic. After I say that's messed up the guy can't get any help, my sister is like why is that messed up? I proclaimed that if you live in America you should be able to speak basic english. My whole argument is that it's only fair. If I'm moving to France you best believe I'm learning how to speak French. So after I said it's only fair,
she said "Well whydon't you learn Spanish?"
I then said, "Because I don't need to. It's not required and the primary language is English."
she replied " Well, why do you think they have to learn english, if you don't want to learn Spanish?"
I then replied "Because this is America, and the language of the land is English. Anyone who lives here should have the courtesy to learn basic English!"
Long story short, I was labeled a bigot for saying it's only fair that people immigrating to America should learn English. Seriously you should've seen this episode, if all immigrants were like these guys, our country would be a lot better off. This guy wanted to go to college and work 40 hours a week to support his family. He wanted better things for his family. Not an undeserved government check!!!
So what do you guys think? Am I a bigot for thinking it would make sense for immigrants to learn English? This applies to legal and illegal.
