McGee Interview

Well i had an interesting day--interviewing Michael McGee Sr. I hadn't seen him in awhile. I covered him when he was a Milwaukee Alderman. Those were the days when he actually forced a local sausage company to close because he said he might have put something in the sausage. He also said he'd burn tires on the freeway unless things changed in his community. I know many people find his current comments regarding the death of Charlie Sykes' mom offensive. They are. Extremely. What McGee is good at doing is focusing attention on issues, creating discussion--often dividing the community, unfortunately. It could be called negative attention. But, sometimes, in the world of poverty and racism it may be one of the quickest ways to get attention. ??

Ironically, Charlie Sykes was my first news director---very long ago he hired me at the now defunct "Northshore Herald". I covered the local school board. May his mother rest in peace.

Myra, you did a wonderful job with that interview. I don't know how you kept your composure, McGee is a complete nutjob. The disrespect he showed to Charlie and his Mother is beyond words. Again, great job!!!

I concur with upnorth. I would have punched the guy. I watched the raw tape. You showed that you are a real pro Myra. A few well placed comments really drew out the old goat.

I agree with the above. You DID do a fine job and kept your composure. I would have kicked that man into next year.
Face it: McGee is a personafication of Satan. He is evil, wretched, and bent on causing others pain and suffering.
THAT is why this man and his spawn needs to be eliminated from our city. The sooner the better.

I wonder how many times over your career you've had to say in your head, "He said WHAT?" :)

When I watched the raw footage, all I could do was stare at the screen with my mouth open. As someone that has been following McGee for a few years, this interview even surprised me. And as someone that has gotten to know Charlie Sykes, the anger just kept building... Stunning, that's the only word I can use to describe this interview, great work!

I THINK THAT MICHAEL MCGEE SEINOR SHOULD BE TAKING BACK WORDS THAT HE USED AGAINST CHARLIE SYKES'S MOTHER ABOUT DYING IN THE FIRE AT HER MEQUON CONDO. WHEN I WATCHED THE INTERVIEW ON THE FOX 6 NEWS @6:00PM, I TRULY THOUGHT IN MY HEART THAT THIS FATHER OF MICHAEL MCGEE JUNIOR IS NOTHING BUT A RACIST WHO IS AGAINST WHITES. SOMEONE NEEDS TO FORCE AN APPOLOGY OUT MICHAEL MCGEE SENIOR. THANK GOD NO KIDS WERE WATCHING THAT INTERVIEW. HOW CAN HE SAY THOSE BAD WORDS? HE IS A BAD MAN FOR MILWAUKEE.

I am not defending Mr. McGee in any way. But some of the name-calling directed at him on this particular blog is just as bad as what he said about the Sykes family. No one has the right to say who should and should not live in any particular place. And his son is a human being, like him or not. He is not a spawn. Sure, what McGee Sr. said was reprehensible. But let's keep it in perspective. And forcing an apology out of him would be insincere, because it would be forced. Frankly, if it were directed at me, I wouldn't want any kind of apology from him because I know he's not sorry for what he said. He is who he is, like him or not. Myra, you showed class and professionalism by doing the interview.
