A Slice of Life

Ok, my school suppies are bought and all labled and packed in the proper backpacks. Is anyone else ready? Have you found the greatest deals that you would like to share? Do you have any weird things on your childs list?

I shopped Walmart all the way and for all three kids got away with $80.00. Not bad since one is in Middle school and his supplies are more expenisve like a calculator (they even sepcifiy the model) and a Gym Uniform. Things like that.

One of my girls need TWO packs of twisty crayons. Last year she didn't even go through one regular pack. I don't get why we have to spend so much on crayons for that convenience. And 48 pencils. How many of you get to the end of the shool year and then your child brings home 40 half used penicils. I hate that.

So who else is ready?

Haven't gotten anything yet, they have a school supply assistance thing at the school next Sat so I'm waiting for that before anything else is gotten. I think those lists are a bit rediculous too. I've gotten to the point where I go through what they have at the end of the year and save what's good for the next year, I don't care if the teacher don't like it, they're not the ones that have to pay for it.

I really feel for you. I remember shopping for 5 kids every August. I stood there with all the lists in hand with 100 other parents and all I wanted to do was cry. I'm so glad those shopping days are over. Do they even use half that stuff on the list? The worst part was that my kids never brought any of the stuff home at the end of the year.
Do they really use protractors? Ten erasers? Twenty pencils? Boxes of tissues?
When I was little everything was ordered from the school on "supply" day. I can still remember my named being called and opening that new box of crayons. Ohhhh the smell was fantastic.:)
My heart is racing just writing this. Good luck!

I'm one of those last minut shopers(two weeks before). It's always been like that.

I wish I could put it off, but I try to get the sales. It was a rough day though because this time I had all THREE kids telling me they wanted this folder and that notebook. You know, the cute ones that are filled with stripes and polka dots. BUT they are all supposed to have color coded notebooks and folders. The school even tells us the color. BTW, yellow wide ruled notebooks are not always very easy to find.

I get what I can afford and the kids tell me that the school gets on them. I went to that school and told them that not everyone has money. What do you do for the children that just can't afford? It's not our child's falt and they shouldn't get a blue slip for that. I raised hell.

I have had everything for about a week now. I just got the other backpack that I needed two days ago. I bought both backpacks on ebay, new disney ones. One even included school supplies inside. Granted they didn't need them because I already had everything but it's nice to have extra for home use. I went shopping for the school supplies without them this year and I'm glad I did it that way. There are so many "cool" things in the stores and most lists are specific about the item you need to have.

In Racine at the festaval hall, every year they give back packs out to the first 500 kids or so. The back packs have school supplies in them too. I think it's around August 18th. You can check it out in the Racine Journal Times. For Racine residents only I think. Check it out.

Lori, that is cool. There are alot of organizations that do that and they usually go by zip code. I belong to a group that is working on one.

Well today Friday 08/08/08 I did the school supply shoping. For two boys it cost $80.00, thats not counting the gym clothes and shoes yet. I still need to get the gym stuff yet and a couple of new clothes, oh and a back pack. We're almost ready to go.

I am married to a great guy and a mom of three. Our kids are spread out in ages so we have one in preschool, one in first grade and one in his first year of middle school. We spend alot of time on soccer fields and in dance studios but I wouldn't trade that in for anything. My favorite day of the week is Sunday because that is family day. I also love Friday nights after the kids go to bed. We love to take long weekends just to get away. Usually we end up at waterparks, but we all love the water so it is great. I love to eat out. Without the kids is best, but we do go out for lunch as a family every Sunday. It is just our thing. I stay at home for the most part and spend my days working in my kids classrooms or just taking care of the every day things. I am here to meet other great people and moms like me.I write about my life because that is what I do. I love to share and while some people are all about politics or news.... My stage of life is all about me and my family. So most of my blogs are going to be just that.
