It's no secret that drinking in excess can cause people to do dumb things. We hear about the consequences almost every day from the serious (drunk driving) to the trivial (drunk dialing).

But today, we reported on a story that takes intoxicated behavior to a new depth.

Sheboygan police say a mother and her boyfriend were drinking all afternoon. After ten or 12 beers, the boyfriend proposed a $1 wager.

He bet that she wouldn't shoot her daughter with a BB gun.

She took the bet and fired a shot into her 8-year-old daughter's leg, according to police.

She won the dollar, but may also get a stay in prison. She's facing a felony child abuse charge and could spend three years behind bars.

It's important to note that she has not yet been convicted in a court of law, but this is one of those cases that -- if true -- makes you sit up and say, "wow, that was dumb."

Does anyone have any stories that can top this one for drunken stupidity?

What do you think should happen to the mother in this case?

I killed a man in Reno just to watch him die.

Unbelievable. Shooting your own kid for a dollar. Another case to support the idea that some people should never reproduce. That little 8-year-old needs to live somewhere else a long, long way from her relatives. As for the mother, shooting her would mean that she would be getting off much too easily. What is wrong with people?

As for stories about the dumb things that drunks do, I have a million of 'em.

One of my favorite stories is the guy who came home drunk, got his pants to his knees and fell backwards on his bed and passed out. The family cat thought that his crotch, being a warm and fuzzy place, was the perfect place to take a nap. The cat had fleas. Guess what? The guy discovered that he had fleas. Now here is where the story gets really bizarre. The guy purchased a flea colllar and wore it around his male member.

The punchline is that the flea collar worked.

nice desert, very funny.

This is just another story about the lack of personal responsibility and parental neglect. I am just bewildered when hearing these kinds of stories. Parents who refuse medical treatment for their child, parents shooting their kids for a dollar, Fire kills 3 of 4 children who were left alone while mom was "at the bar", when will this end?

Is it that in todays world these types of stories are being reported upon as compared to the 60's and 70's when you rarely heard about this stuff happening? Or have we as a society just forgot about right and wrong? As a parent myself, I get pissed off hearing this stuff. I try my hardest to ensure the safety and security of my sons.

There is nothing our law enforcement can do to prevent this crap from happening, only get involved after it does. And by then, the trauma has already been done to these kids. And we wonder why they (the kids) grow up to be just like their parents. When will it end? I will be watching Mr. Lowe, even though I can tell you already, it makes me sick to my stomach.

i was shocked and appalled when i saw the story. if she did shoot her daughter in the leg, why would she say that she fell off her bike? does not make any sense to me at all. she should spend at least 6 years for felony child abuse instead of the 3 year sentence. as always, mike_lowe, great job on the posting of this blog. great job and keep up the great work.

Fortunately, shooting her daughter in the leg is probably enough to get her parental rights taken away. An 8 year old shouldn't have to live with such idiots to raise her.

My sister's sons were playing with a BB gun and the one boy shot out the younger boy's eye. With many surgerys he will be all right but he doesn't have an eye that works. Every couple of years he needs more surgery because he is still growing. His whole eye is gone because these little boys were playing with a BB gun. This happened about 6 years ago. Now the younger boy who got shot still have to face one more surgery because he is now a grown adult age 18.

When I was 19 years old I moved down to Racine from Oconto Falls. Well I lived with a mother whom loved her drinking so much that when I came home to her house and saw a 7 year old boy watching his 6 week baby sister and his 4 year old sister. I called the cops. She lost her children and I ended up getting my butt beat by the bar friends. I healed from my beating but the children now have a safe place to live. Now the children are adults and have children of their own.

The only one I have is the guy who recently hit my brother.

He was a 3rd offense drunk... surprisingly with a valid drivers license and insurance.

He hit my brother full speed, could have killed him if my brother passed through the intersection a second earlier...

totalled his 1 month old 2008 Hyundai Azura.

Then when the cop who also witnessed the entire thing is arresting him, he starts to joke with the cop about hitting my brother. He couldn't stop laughing and was making jokes about the accident and acting like drunk people normally do. Like an idiot.

The cop informed him my brother is a Deputy Sheriff in the county where the accident happened.

He stopped laughing and asked if he could have his trial transfered to another jurisdiction.

First off, Mike, welcome to the Fox6 family.
I hadn't had a chance to welcome you yet.

After a decade of bartending I have hundreds of stupid drunks stories, but we'll just let those stay way in the back of my head.
I am curious, do you know who reported the idiot for shooting her daughter? I'd like to congratulate that person for doing the right thing.
This woman and her boyfriend have serious mental issues. How could you shoot your own child? First off, they need to take the child and any other children away from her. Second, they both need jail time and rehabilitation.
I can't imagine how horrible this poor child feels knowing her own mother would point any type of gun at her. Much less actually pull the trigger. I hope they have extended family that can help this child deal with what has occured.

This is just a peek at the sickness that pervades our Liberal minded American society.
I guess we should be thankful she wasn't trying to shoot an apple off her head with a bow and arrow.

Actually, If I remember correctly, on the news they said the girl couldn't walk after she was shot, but they didn't do anything about it. So it festered into a nasty looking bruise and wound.

At school the teacher saw an odd injury and bruise on her leg and asked what had happened. The girl told the teacher and the teacher called the police.

The sister of the drunk mother said the little girl is basically a liar looking for attention from her mom...

the police said the injury matches her story.

I just hope she doesn't get a slap on the wrist like so many drunks do, and have her daughter returned to her.

Earwig...Liberals don't like guns. Remember?
Why is everything politically related to you?
This was just plain, drunken stupidity and has nothing to do with political affiliation.

KBird, its related because we didn't hear about this kind of nonsense until the Liberals decided punishing people for these kinds of acts was cruel because we didn't "understand" the circumstances that cause them to act like this.

There is only "one thing" that makes people act like this, and that is pure stupidity.

And another thing, there are a lot of crimes committed by thugs using guns, but Liberals sure do seem to be able to find all kinds of excuses to keep them out of prison. They hate the inanimate object, but love the thinking criminal. Try turning your thinking around and hold the person responsible. You might see "less" crime, or people who shoot their child on a dollar bet.

Straight outta Bill Mahar's mouth to your ear hey s-if?
Just because you "hear" it does not make it true.

Should I believe you "love" sheep because I heard it?
