I know it's a personal question. But there's only one reason why I'm asking it. We're working on a story about those teeth whitening kiosks at the mall. Have you ever been to one? Was it successful? We're curious to know about your experience. If you have or know somebody who has, just email us planning@myfoxboston.com. We'd love to hear from you!

And don't worry, I'll be blogging about meatier issues soon enough.

Hi Maria, I am very lucky that I don't need to use such things. About once a month I just remove them and give them one coat of white out. Works like a charm.....

How white are my teeth? Well they'd look much whiter if I could work on my tan! How about we dial up a little sun in the forecast for a rare change my fine weather peeps?! Or did Kevin take it with him on vaca? Never had my teeth whitened at a mall kiosk and never really noticed the kiosks before either. Had laser whitening done a few yrs back at a dental office and my teeth hurt for days, so I'm not sure I'd be cool having that done by some dude working in a mall. What's next Botox kiosks? Maybe some Lasik right next to the Cinnabun? If it's even a little complicated, I say get it done in a professional office setting. Now once again, a little sunshine please...

Maria,

My teeth are actually pretty good. I guess it wouldn't be too bad to have them a little whiter, but I can't complain. Teeth whitening kiosks?? That don't sound too good.

Hey Maria,
I've actually seen these kiosks live at a hair show about 3 mothis ago in NYC. It was quite interesting. For 20 minutes at a cost of $150, your teeth is guaranteed to 2 shades whiter! They also used disposable trays on each client/customers mouth. The UV rays was very bright and customers receiving the treatments had to wear sunnies as you wear as you would wear in a tanning salon. Also, the person receiving the treatment was in a big comfy recliner type chair. As I said I was quite interesting. I wanted to get the treatment done myself, but the waiting list filled up too quickly! That is how hot it was at the NYC Hair Show held in Manhattan back In April 2008

I, personally have never had my teeth whitened, nor do I think I will be doing so anytime soon. My daughter works for a dentist, and she has had her teeth bleached, used the whitening trays, and used several other methods, and she has said her teeth have hurt for days after--even with the most recent one that claimed to cause NO sensitivity. I think I'll pass--I have had enough tooth pain, I don't care to have more.

I'm with you, Kayle. I've had quite enough work done on my teeth, sensitivity doesn't sound like something I want to add. Besides, my dentist says my teeth are 94 out of 100. Whatever the heck that means, but it sounds good to me. And when you whiten your teeth, isn't one of the recomendations to not drink tea or coffee? Are you kidding me? I thought that was why a lot of people got their teeth whitened in the first place!

Maria,

I take excellent care of my teeth, which is why I'd NEVER take any steps to make them unnaturally whiter.
There was a guy who approached me at the Planning Board meeting in Plymouth one time with unusually white teeth, and he kept smiling at me like he was trying to show them off. He creeped me right out, and I did my best to ignore him until he went away.
I don't think women should do it; but I think the only men who would even CONSIDER doing it are either very effeminate, or very vain. ...Ick...

I don't begrudge anyone who wants to whiten their teeth to enhance their appearance. If that's what it takes to boost ones self confidence and self esteem and it makes you feel good, then I say go for it, whether your a man or a woman, no harm no foul.

This whole craze has gotten a little out of control if you ask me. There is a certain personality that I am crazy about...he has a show about how he tames dogs for people. From one week's episode to the next, his teeth went completely bright, "Get out your sunglasses if you're going to be close to my mouth" white. It's unnatural. He had decently clean teeth before that.

As far as letting anyone in a mall do anything to my body, I'll pass.

Who cares! This only benefits narcissistic people emotionally feeding their obsessions and dentists financially.

I'm with the Captain. Here I am. If you like me, fine. If not, oh well, I have enough friends anyway. In some rare cases this should be done for emotional reasons, but let's face it, we're a very vain society.

I paid my dentist $600 to whiten my teeth prior to having my front two teeth capped. I wish the kiosks had existed prior to my blowing $500 more on the same process.
