What a great time in Boston sports.  I am simply in awe of how many championships our teams keep bringing to the table.  It was a great night last night.  We stayed on the air until around 2 am bringing you the celebration.  But I will admit, when my head finally hit the pillow and I thought about the day, and the amazing win, I kept seeing the face of that little 6 month old baby who was shot.  Both stories had such a huge  impact on me.  The celebration and exhiliration of the win, and pure painful reality that a  6 month old was shot.  So while we celebrate and trust me I am!!! I also want to take a moment and pause and think about that little innocent little baby.  Just thought I would share.

Maria, You more than anyone should be aware of that see-saw of stories out there. Even within the celebration of the Celtics you have to scratch your head when you see someone putting a street sign through a store front. It reminds me of the days of civil unrest. Peoples frustrations of life lead them to the violent acts. But for the life of me I just can't understand the equation of the Victory of a Championship be it World Series, Superbowl or The Finals that brings some idiots to behave the way they do. And I do feel that same sadness for that little child. And how about the Entwistles?

Maria,

When you guys reported a six-month old baby was shot, my heart just broke. I felt so bad for that little angel, but nothing brings it home like seeing her sweet, angelic, smiling little face. I broke down. I heard that she's hanging on and fighting for her life. I hope to Sweet Jesus that little baby recovers. May God forgive the person that did it, because I don't think I'd be able to.

That baby...and the facts of the Entwhistle fiasco....it's enough to blunt the effect of even a 39 point victory....

Shooting defenseless, innocent babies....May God have Mercy.

What makes it more depressing for me is that I am willing to bet that the shooter(s) have zero remorse. For any parent it is their worst nightmare to have something happen to their kids, let along anything so heartless. I know i gave my girls a extra hard hug before saying goodnight.
As far as my thoughts on the Celtics and Boston sports teams: When are the Bruins going to become good again???

Maria, I love you dearly and have nothing more than the utmost respect for you, but can’t we just enjoy the fact that the Celtics just won the NBA Championship after 22 years without putting a damper on it by reminding us all that a little 6month old baby was shot a couple of days ago? Trust me; nobody is happy about what happened to that poor little baby. I think we should be able to separate one issue from the other and enjoy the Celtics win for a day or so without feeling guilty before the next tragedy rears its ugly head.

Jovanone,
I think what Maria was trying to say is that
besides sports there are real life issues, that take place everyday, and we can't get so engrosed in the "fanfare" that we don't
"see the tree's through the forest".
As I do agree that it's great we won a championship, however how many of those sports
stars would actually stop and give you the time of day if the cameras weren't rolling?
We need to focus on the real issues
at hand, and don't be so overwhelmed at the
highlights of sports.
Maria, just keep doing the great job that you do, because without watching you and the rest of the fox25 news gang, it's like that Dominos commericial,
"WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH THE OTHER 28 MINUTES"

Guys, I honestly didn't try to damper the celebration. I was just being honest and sharing with you what happens sometimes when you cover the news. I thought you might find it interesting what sometimes ends up staying with you. I could've written an entire blog about the Celtics, how I was down at City Hall Plaza when I was 20 years old celebrating with Bird and company. Jovanone, I totally understand, I was just trying to share the reality of when you are bombarded with so many horrible stories and so many good ones, the toll it can take. See you at the parade tomorrow!

Maria, I have to agree with you. Yes, it's very exciting and wonderful that the Celtics won the championship, but at the same time it truly breaks my heart thinking about that beautiful innocent baby girl fighting for life. I think we should all pray for her and her family.

This world just keeps getting crazier, and crazier.

As heartwrenching and difficult it is so often lately, we are so fortunate to have you to keep us informed on what's happening in the world around us. You do a spectacular job reporting the news, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there and doing what you do for us every day!!!!! You truly are a very special person with tons of compassion and empathy for others!!!! You rock, Maria!!!!

I also love you dearly Maria and understand where you were / are coming from. Every once in awhile the stuff that you see can get overwhelming. I actually think that this was one of your best blogs because you were expressing feelings and being human instead of just telling a story; this is one of the main reasons that people feel about you as we do. you're not just a reporter, you're also one of us. Firefighters / EMT's / Paramedics, we all feel the same at some point. Glad you shared with us!

Maria, I completely understand where you're coming from. And, even without this tragic story of the 6 month old OR the Entwistle case, the Celtics win would still be bittersweet. There are also the stories that came from the win of Celtics fans vandalizing storefronts in Boston to "celebrate".

Unfortunately, that's the way the world is these days, but we are lucky here in the Boston area to have people like you who are unafraid to show your humanity in covering the sad duality of the news.

Maria, your inability to divorce your inner feelings from the evil realities which you are sometimes obliged to report, is EXACTLY the reason why you are so successful and respected. Despite your training, viewers can see through your veiled indifference and pick up the empathy that comes directly from your heart. They may not recommend it broadcasting class, but you set a whole different standard. Keep smiling. And best wishes.

Maria: You are all over the place. If this were a term paper, your professor would not give a high grade. If you lead with sports, expand on the subject instead of switching mid stream.

Elite One; good thing this is a blog, where people share opinions and thoughts and not grammer school where your 'grade' would mean something

People, People, People,
sounds like some of us are getting way to sensitive about this,
Now we have people grading people's blogs,
people "picking on" Maria, for starting about sports then jumping to something else.
That is called "Being Well Versed" on all subjects, to be able to talk about 2 different things at once.
Let's leave the grading of posts to the proffesionals.

I just think the two subjects do not need to be mixed. I am sure the producer of Fox thinks the same. I did not see a story televising the two together.

Maria you did a great job with your blog and thank you for sharing it with us. Happyg good thing you don't work as a reporter because if you can only stick with 1 subject your newscast would take all day. Reporters are people too and believe it or not they do have opinions. Maria keep up the good work and don't lose your passion, it does come through.
