I'm getting old. This confirms it. There's a new line of high-heeled shoes designed specifically for babies. For BABIES!  They're called Heelarious. Not funny. Trust me, I'm no prude. But this is crazy. The company says, "The shoes are obviously not for walking. The heel will collapse with weight. Heelarious stilettos are supposed to be worn in the crib."  Um. no. Baby, you wait until your old enough. How does 18 sound?  Why are we pushing our kids to grow up, starting in the crib? Let babies be babies.  And leave the high heel wearing to the adults. And if you could make them Stuart Weitzman's, that would be great!

Am I overreacting?

Hi Maria,

I’ve never heard of such a thing. If these high heels are not made for walking and collapse with weight, why bother what purpose does it serve? I can see it now these pedophiles will be having a field day. God help us……

Sounds to me like someone has been smoking something funny! Who the heck in their right minds would even think of something so ridiculous? An infant in stilettos? Give me a break!!! What ever happened to those cute little knit booties?

Maria,

You are not overreacting, nor are you getting old. This is r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s! Right up there with putting mini skirts and pun-pun shorts on little girls. Not funny and definitely not cute. Neither is it funny/cute to have little girls dancing like risque adult girls. I don't get why people think any of this is funny/cute. Let's add this mess to that list and try like heck to keep our kids away from it. Let the children be children, for Pete's sake!!!

It is been happening for ages; parents piercing the babies ears, and sometimes the nose! Dressing them sluttier earlier or allowing them to, thinking it's 'cute'. How much do you want to bet that these will be popular for awhile? It is time for parents to go back to being parents and their child's moral compass.
One question Maria: what are Stuart Weitzmans?

Shanniesdad, Really really good shoes!

It seems to be just a novelty product to me, not a fashion statement. It's like those tuxedos they sell for dogs.

I think people are over reacting. The shoes are cute and completely harmless at that age. They won't even remember they wore them. People put their children in baby UGGs because of the fashion style and label. What is more astounding to me is the price. If someone wants to spend $35.00 on baby shoes more power to them. I think they are cute, but would never justify spending that much. If moral is driven by shoes, we have bigger problems.

Very, very good shoes!!! :)

Maria, I'm partial to Christian Louboutin's and Jimmy Choo, but right now, my budget only allows for me to drool on the store window. Someday. LOL!

A new and creative operational definition of "BLEEP"....

Maria,
Now I'm just wondering ,if the shoe's can't be worn due to collapse with weight, and they are made for the crib, Hmmmmmm what purpose does this serve?
Weren't we always told growing up "don't wear your shoes in bed"?
The only reason parents would buy these is to "show off" I would think these would be dangerous for the baby, having stilletos in the crib.
Now instead of baby sleeping with a blanky, and a binky, they sleep with strobe lights and stilletos.
And people wonder why the kids of today are messed up.

Hi, Maria!
Wendy Roy of Glam-Granola here; we met briefly last summer when I sang for the Field of Dreams event at Fenway (first time using this system so my apologies if this comes through twice). I heard you mentioning this on the news last night, and so I had to say hi and weigh in. It IS silly! It could be sad as well, as we need to make sure we don't start making babies fashion "accessories" as we have done with dogs. Cute clothes? Sure. Comfy doggie travel bag? Sure. But certainly not getting a dog just to amp up your image or add to your outfit. (or having baby to dress up or i.d. with) You know what I'm saying... Not a crazy serious issue for now but could get to be.
Anyway, thanks for writing!
Check out www.GlamGranola.com and let me know what you think!
Warmly,
Wendy

I'm gonna give the majority of parents some credit here. I don't think they'll sell a lot of them.

^^^ What sirB said. With the economy being what it is, who the heck is gonna spend $35 on footwear for a kid who isn't even walking? Socks or knitted wool booties are enough to cover the feet, and they cost a LOT less.

I agree with you, Maria. I must be old, too, because I remember what a big deal it was to get my first pair of high heels, as a teenager. That is as it SHOULD be!

First off: 35 bucks for crib shoes? What are these things made out of? And how long are they expected to last?

Second: No, Maria, you're not old. I think they're stupid too. But I have a sinking feeling that there will be a celebrity craze over them, and chances are there'll be a few girls born in this day and age who get to be mortified over their professional studio pictures wearing these things being shown to prom dates/husbands-to-be.

Maria,
while i was at work last night I was thinking about the High Heels for babies,
then I started laughing, could you picture it,
Buff and Biffy going to the store to get these, and the clerk says" Now remember you
can't put any weight on these"
and Buff says" oh don't worry they won't be leaving the crib" "Now Biffy shall we go partake in a Latte"?

Now that made me laugh lk34. Interesting responses, not a heck of a lot of support for them. Love to track the sales.

hi marie,
no youre not getting old, some people are just getting stupid and thinking they can get rich quick!
omg...."PATHETIC" talk about an accident waiting to happen? who in this world would put there babies in high heels??? especially if you cant have any weight bearing! the woman who designed these say there basically for novelties but can be used in the crib.
i think the ladies should take the pattern, put it in a box and hide it in the garage and never look back!! or put the heels in the toy isle and use only with baby dolls!!

Wow. I cannot believe how many people are against this. Did it ever occur to anyone that they could be modeled after a successful business woman, not a hooker like everyone seems to believe. I think they are adorable, and if I had a girl I would get them for her. People spend just as much money on designer shoes for boys, so money cannot be the issue, either. I really don't understand what all of the outrage is for. Its shoes.
