I get lots of emails from friends.  Most of them are funny or cute, but occasionally, I get one of those emails that make you stop breathing.  Here's one:

SLEEP LAST NIGHT? Bed a little lumpy... Toss and turn any... Wish the heat was higher... Maybe the a/c wasn't on... Had to go to the john... Needed a drink of water... ?

Yes.. It is like that! Count your blessings, pray for them.  Talk to your Creator.  And the next time when ...

The other car cuts you off and you must hit the brakes, or you have to park a little further from Walmart than you want to be, or you're served slightly warm food at the restaurant, or you're sitting and cursing the traffic in front of you, or the shower runs out of hot water,

Think of them...
Protecting your freedom and thank God for all your blessings and ask for their protection.

Thanks for posting this June. I've gotten this email before and I can never get through the whole thing dry eyed. It's so important to keep these men and women in our prayers. I know I do everyday. Funny how the small inconveniences of life seem as trivial as they really are when you witness what these people go through. God bless every one of them and keep them from harm.

I know what you mean, jonsmom. I feel like I have NO RIGHT to complain about a single thing when I see stuff like this. I feel that if they can go through this for me, I need to keep my mouth shut and find ways to make THEIR lives better.

Hi June, Thanks again for another insightful blog. These men and women in this strange country is in itself a inconvenience. I hope with all my heart a new administration will get these men and women home to their families.

Cut and run is not in these brave protectors. How about we ask those who are doing the actual fighting whether or not they want to leave Iraq a safe, stabilized nation.
My son is currently serving in northern Iraq.He told me to tell those who have refused to join and fight that they're "all set". They don't need any input from armchair Generals. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Not this time.

Happyg, I'm happy for you and your son, that you feel that way. I wish you and him the best. Iraq was a stabilized nation before we stuck our two cents in somewhere we didn't and still don't belong. We were lied to. Trillions of waisted dollars. This is not coming from a armchair General. I served my country and was proud to do so. My contempt is not for the soldiers fighting this war, it is for the war criminals that lead and keeps us there. God bless you and your son and all the brave men and women who serve at home and in foriegn countries.....

HappyG,
Is your son Army or National Guard? If the Guard, which unit?

Chip,

This email made me cry. Of course I knew life was not "cute" for them over there, but to actually see it.....breaks your heart. I would kiss their feet if I could and I would feel honored to. The love and respect I feel for the men and women of our military can't be expressed with words. There simply aren't enough.

I was at a Tim Mcgraw concert at the Garden a couple years ago and was blown away and actually brought a couple tears to my eyes. He played his "Cowboy in me" song and had pictures of the brave service men flashing on the jumbo screen above the stage. It was very moving when the pictures of the goodbye's we're shown and the soldiers had to leave their families behind. The ones that had new borns or toddlers really hit hard.

The one picture that got me was a big soldier holding a little girl face to face with the little girls face so full of love and the soldiers full of fear. Thats where the tears hit. When the song ended I was blown away once more at the level of crowd noise in appreciation. It was awesome.

The pictures you posted reinforce the level of commitment and sacrifice these brave soldiers are making.

God Bless Every One, Watch Over Them and Bring Them Home Safe.

Sorry I didn't mention SOLDIER WOMEN. It wasn't meant as a slight I just thought of them both as equals.
