You Decide...

What if I decided to "change-up" my thoughts every sentence?

Here's how that would go:

Yesterday, I was watching the Brewer's game and noticed something odd at Miller Park. I've decided to get an Xbox 360 over the Wii. I love Coffey. Pandas are funny!

Annoying? Totally disjointed? Sound somewhat insane? ... You bet!

That's how I felt when I was in a bar in the Phoenix area this past week and I noticed the DJ was changing the songs every 60 seconds. You might be able to hear a chorus then soon after -- he would mix into another song.

One minute of a tune then on to the next? Really people? Are we that brain-dead that we can't even listen to a coherent 3 minute song anymore? Are our attentions spans that small they make Webster look like Shaq?

I decided to ask the people who work at the bar if they liked this format or if they even noticed it? One woman said she liked it because it kept her attention, another said it was all about the art of "interweaving" one song into the other and it was the mark of a good DJ.

DJ's I'm putting you on notice -- DO NOT BUY INTO THIS TREND. First off -- there was no art here -- it was likely a computer program that after "x" amount of seconds performed an audio mix of "x" seconds into the new song and repeated that pattern.

Second -- The songs played -- the music is the art (and I use that term loosely "Hip Hop Artists" -- you know who you are) or the primary art. I'm certain the artists responsible would appreciate DJ's playing the majority of their songs.

Third -- 60 seconds? No -- that's not right.

DJ's don't fall into this. More importantly consumers if you hear a DJ doing this -- tell him or her to stop it. It's an insult to your intelligence and to your attention span. If that DJ doesn’t stop it, go to a bar that gives you more credit.

Gone in 60 seconds was a decent movie -- it is not a good way to enjoy music.

I've got to be honest -- I do not like "Hip-Hop" music. I don't know when I started disliking it, but for years now I've marveled at how bad, how lacking originality, how devoid of musical innovation and artistry the contemporary genre is.

I just don't think a "good drum-machine" and average lyrics equals a good tune.

I am by no means an artist myself, but if I can simulate the same beats "Hip-Hop's Grand Artists" belt out on a 1984 Casio 100 synthesizer -- I believe their songs are just as amateurish.

That said, I've been watching and waiting over the musical category -- not unlike the Grim Reaper has hovered over Keith Richards -- Checking to see when "Hip-Hop" would flatline.

All musical trends eventually come to an end -- I submit "Disco Demolition Night" 1979 in Chicago.

Well, I follow that with "Hip-Hop's" "Waterloo" -- June 18, 2007 on my Television.    Behold -- "Hip-Hop" crushed underneath its own drum-machine weight and desire for liquid product endorsement. (CLICK ON THE LINK FOR THE VIDEO)

"50 Cent" is not the reason for its demise -- but only "The straw that broke the camel's back." I blame "Lill John", DJ's who insisted on playing "Usher's" "Yeah" into the ground, "Sean Paul"  and almost any song by "Nelly."

RIP "Hip-Hop." While I don't imagine I'll turn on the radio and never hear you again -- I look forward to the next musical trend that's poised to replace you.   I'm sure "50 Cent" would, however,  not toast some "VitaWater" to that.

One word -- Awesome.

That's how I'd describe the re-launched "Beastie Boys" Site.

On that site is a complete listing of all -- yes -- almost all of their music videos.

And for the record if I were stranded on a desert island "Paul's Boutique" is one of the albums I would need to have (sorry "American Idols").

Just think of it as "Sabotage" "on demand".

Jeremy -- aka -- Vic Colfari -- aka "Bobbie the Rookie."

Congratulations to Nicole for doing a great job in L.A. reporting on Idol. I don't know how she was able to work so much but...caffeine comes to mind.

Kudos Koglin...

Just wanted to pass on the website of a friend of mine and a talented singer and musician. His name is Kai Brown and he's from Australia.

He's a very funny guy who was a pop star down under and is now working on a solo career. Chek out his site if you have a chance.

I got the following from an e-mail sub called TVspy. It's funny unless you're the reporter.

"...from the Hollywood reporter.com...Sanjaya Fan Disrupts Newscast...Unidentified Man Interrupts CNBC Reporter On Location:

CNBC reporter Mary Thompson on Tuesday was reporting live about Citibank on the financial news channel in front of Carnegie Hall on West 57th Street when an unidentified man with a cap came up and shouted the name of Sanjaya Malakar, the "American Idol" contestant who has kept making the cut and is the subject of an on-air campaign by Sirius Satellite Radio host Howard Stern.

"Is this about Sanjaya?" the man asked Thompson on-camera. Thompson said no, whereby the man said he was going to vote for him on the Fox reality show.

Another staffer pulled the man away, and the network switched back to the CNBC's studio in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. Anchor Sue Herera said that Thompson is a New Yorker and knows how to handle situations like that."

The moral of the story is two-fold:
1) When you interrupt a person doing his or her job, karma has a funny way of getting you in the end (No thanks to the dude's vote -- Sanjaya got booted).

2) Don't be "That guy!"

With a jump across Lake Michigan, Jeremy Ross landed in Milwaukee and it's a leap he's happy to make. Jeremy joined FOX 6 in December of 2005 moving from Michigan to Wisconsin. He worked for the NBC and FOX affiliates in Lansing, MI where he won top honors by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Jeremy received multiple awards from the Michigan Associated Press, including two consecutive years of first place awards in breaking news, feature reporting and investigative journalism. In 2001, Jeremy worked in Washington D.C. for the Medill News Service as a political correspondent including covering former presidential candidate John Kerry. He received his Masters in Journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Michigan where he caught "the broadcasting bug." At U of M he was a play-by-play broadcaster for Michigan Hockey while working at the student cable and radio stations. Besides news, Jeremy helped write, produce and perform improv comedy in The Second City Conservatory when he lived in Chicago. Crazy broadcast situations he's been involved in: 1) Jeremy helped cover two Michigan State University basketball riots. He's still not used to the less-than-pleasant smell of pepper spray. 2) While doing a live shot he's been tackled (without a referee around, however, no penalty flag was thrown.) But, seriously...if you're reading this please don't do that...reporters don't wear football pads. 3) Jeremy's locked himself in a radio studio in order to keep broadcasting the 1996 NCAA championship hockey game. The game went into overtime and into the next show's timeslot. The next D.J. threatened to have him arrested, fortunately U of M won and Jeremy served no jail time.
