A couple of things to sort out. First of all, what do you think of American Idol's move to NOT kick anyone off the show Wednesday night? We on the web team get it -- but wondered if it disappointed those of you who were looking for someone to go.

Second, did you enjoy the longer, special show? Was it too much? Did you donate?

Let us know...

What was up with all the Gloria Estefan songs?!  I don't think that was the best choice for the ladies... but anyhoo... here's my recaps for this week:

1) Melinda Doolittle, singing "Sway":  I thought she did another good job as always, very smooth... but not a real "standout" performance like she's had in the past.

2) LaKisha Jones, singing "Conga":  She seemed to run out of breath in parts... not the greatest, a bit of a cheesy song.

3) Chris Richardson, singing "Smooth":  Judges loved him, but I thought it sounded too low, and kind of weird.  I think he's back in the bottom this week.

4) Haley Scarnato, singing "Turn the Beat Around":  Weak!  Ran out of breath, dressed too skimpy, although all the guy Idol fans seem to be lovin' it.  I think she'll be gone this week.

5) Phil Stacey, singing "Maria, Maria": Okay, but seemed really off in some parts.  And, what was up with him wearing two hats?!  Kind of bizzaro.  I think he'll join Haley and Chris in the bottom 3.

6) Jordin Sparks, singing "Rhythm is Gonna Get You":  I thought it was too old for her, a bit boring and unenthusiastic-- sad to see from my favorite!!

7) Blake Lewis, singing "I Need to Know":  Fabulous!  Best of the night, added his own flair and I thought it rocked!!

8) Sanjaya Malakar, singing "Besa Me Mucho": I give him points for singing in Spanish!  I thought he wasn't too bad again this week... as goofy as he is, I think he's sticking around!

Watch tonight to see who goes home, and let me know what you think!

This week was kind of a snore-- I don't think "American Classics" really speak to the Idol audience, but anyway... here's my take on what the top 9 brought to the table...

1) Blake Lewis: good personality, and good energy.  I dig how he always finds a way to keep whatever he sings young and interesting.

2) Phil Stacey: yuck!  started off really weird sounding and disjointed, and never got back on track.

3) Melinda Doolitte: stellar as always.  one of her best in the competition, I think!

4) Chris Richardson: good energy and lively... but I'm sick of him trying to channel Justin Timberlake.  let's face it Chris, you will never be as hot as JT-- sorry!

5) Jordin Sparks: good vocals-- she always does a fantasic job and once again, didn't dissapoint!

6) Gina Glocksen: I think she took a step backward from last week.  it was okay, but not the greatest.

7)  Sanjaya Malakar: even though I think he *should* have been gone long ago, I think this time he actually didn't sound all that bad-- compared to the last few weeks!  so, if people voted for him when he was that bad, I think he'll make the cut once again because this song wasn't as painful!

8) Haley Scarnato: okay, but not up to par with the rest of her peers.  i think she's trying to hard to use her sexuality to get votes-- and Simon's just egging her on!  can you say cleavage overload?!

9) LaKisha Jones: started off not the greatest, but pulled it off.  good power as always.

I say bottom 3 tonight is Phil, Gina, and Haley... with Phil or Haley likely headed home.  Enjoy the show!

Okay, so I was 2 for 3!  I predicted Sanjaya, Chris Sligh, and Haley in the bottom three.   My psychic abilites are getting kind of freaky!! :)   I read some comments from Chris today... he says he expected to go... but says he also said, quote:

"That's the thing with this competition is you never know. Every year you never know who's going home. I think it's frustrating to have one bad performance. If you look through what I've done so far on the show, every performance has been a pretty good vocal performance. It's a little frustrating to have one-- not even a bad performance, just a not-great performance, and go home. I made the top ten and that was my goal. I tried out on a whim. I mean I literally tried out on a whim and I made the top ten."

Very true.  It's gotta suck for him to have to go home... and see Sanjaya still stittin' there on the couch!  Chris was very funny, but I don't think America really caught on to his sarcasm.

Okay, so I don't think Gwen was really the best choice to "coach" the idols-- she didn't really give all that much advice... but I realize she's just there to help sell her own CD's!

Anyway... here's my thoughts on the performances:

1) LaKisha Jones: good power, good upbeat song for a change... but, I think she's starting to get a bit complacent.  needs to try new things.

2) Chris Sligh:  Gwen was right on with this one-- he was off-beat the whole song. was very distracting... one of his worst.

3) Gina Glocksen:  After last week's performance, I thought she was on her way out the door... but she really turned things around this time!  I thought she was fantastic, and agree with the judges that this was her best yet.

4) Sanjaya Malakar: Heinous... horrible... I realize now that even he thinks he's a joke, and he's just trying the most bizzare things to see how long he can skate through!

5) Haley Scarnato: Boring.  That pretty much sums it up.  I think she changed the melody too much and like Simon said, it was forgettable.

6) Phil Stacey: I thought he was very good this week, and much improved from his previous performances.

7) Melinda Doolitte: Good as always, but like LaKisha, I think she tries to stick with songs that are "safe"... I think she needs to shake it up a little if she wants to go all the way.

8) Blake Lewis: Surprisingly good... when it started off so slow, I got a little worried... but it wasn't boring, he kept it interesting!

9) Jordin Sparks: Really good.  Tried something different and she pulled it off.  Really showed she is versatile.

10) Chris Richardson: Good job.  I also think he was much improved over last week.  Like Randy said, I liked the R&B flair he put to the song.

I predict that Sanjaya, Haley, and Chris Sligh will be bottom 3 tonight... with Haley or Chris going home.

Enjoy the show!

So long, Stephanie!

Miss Edwards is the latest Idol sent packing.  I predicted she would be in the bottom 3!  (Though, they only ended up doing the bottom 2.)  Though I figured she would be likely to go... don't get me wrong-- I DON'T think she is the worst singer!  Obviously, that title goes to Sanjaya.  And, I think Haley and Gina should have gone before Stephanie.

But, I think there are a few reasons Stephanie is no longer around... First off, the judges panned her-- and I think the public tends to go along with what Simon, Randy and Paula say... Secondly, she just didn't have a personality or certain trait that made her stand out.  Blake's got the beatboxing, Chris Sligh has the goofy hair, LaKisha and Melinda have the amazing voices, Gina has the rocker-style... I think unfortunately, Stephanie just kind of blended in with the wallpaper.

The sad part is, now Sanjaya and Haley will be on the Idol tour, since they're in the Top 10!  Good luck selling tickets to that!!  (But then again, I guess the people voting for them will go to the concert!)

Here's another random thought:  I wonder if the order that Ryan told the contestants to stand up in last night, were the order of the votes?  For example-- Phil, Melinda and Blake were told to stand up first in one group-- were they the top vote getters??  The following group was Chris Sligh, LaKisha, and Jordin.... followed by Sanjaya, Haley and Gina... eventually ending up with Chris Richardson and Stephanie in the bottom two.  I think that they possibly went from top vote getter, to bottom vote getters... but of course they'll never tell us that.  If it WAS the case, I find it interesting that Phil is in the top group... don't think he's such a strong singer.

Anyway... hey, if you want to see the Final 6 contestants LIVE in Hollywood, be sure to tune into FOX 6 Wakeup next week, for details about our contest to win tickets!!

As Randy would say, this week was "just aiight for me."  I have 3 faves who I think did fabulous... but other than that, it was just kinda like wallpaper.  I think Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks, and Melinda Doolittle blew it out of the water.  As for the rest... here are my recaps:

1) Haley Scarnato-- I think she just realized that now that Antonella is gone, she can become the new "hot chick" of Idol.  I mean, c'mon-- hot pants?  really?  I think she tried to hard with her physical appearance, and not hard enough on her singing.  But, I think this just got her to the next round.

2) Chris Richardson-- As Simon said, it was a bit "nasaly".  I thought he sounded great when you heard him working with Peter Noone... but when he hit the stage, he was back to being nasal.  The judges seemed to love him though.

3) Stephanie Edwards-- Wasn't her best, kind of shaky, I thought.  I think she could wind up in the bottom three.

4) Blake Lewis-- Very, very good... really entertaining.  I still think he's the guy to beat.  And, his dance moves are wooing the ladies, I'm sure!!

5) LaKisha Jones-- Wasn't my favorite performance... I thought she should have gone with the other song that Lulu recommended.  But, I still think she's safe.

6) Phil Stacey-- He went with a rocker-type song, which was worlds better than some of the songs he's done in the past-- (namely LeeAnn Rimes).  I thought he did alright, had good energy... the judges weren't very impressed though.

7) Jordin Sparks-- Awesome performance, good power... I think she's quickly becoming one of the frontrunners!!

8) Sanjaya Malakar-- Seriously?!  This is just becoming a laughing stock now.  It was horrible.  And, what was up with that crying girl?!   Whoa.

9) Gina Glocksen-- I know she's kind of our most local girl, but sorry to say... she wasn't very good last night.  I thought it was off-key, and weird... may wind up in the bottom 3 with this.  But, her rocker personality has a lot of appeal.  I do think she need to learn a little humility though.

10) Chris Sligh-- He did alright, a little shaky in parts... I think that was because he was trying to hard with the whole audience interaction thing.

11) Melinda Doolittle-- Good power, good emotion.  Like the judges said, she tells a story with a song.  And, even though slow songs can sometimes be boring... she makes them interesting.  (P.S.-- Did anyone see the skit that they did about Melinda on the show "The Soup" on "E!"??  I'm a Melinda fan and all, but it was pretty funny.)

Okay, so... I think the bottom three tonight is looking like Sanjaya, Gina, and Stephanie... we shall see!!

So, do you think this was Simon Cowell's idea, or what?!  Tonight, the remaining 11 finalists have to sing songs from "British Invasion" artists...

Groups like The Beatles or The Who... even Oasis, or dare I say it-- The Spice Girls!!

So, it should be interesting to see what choices all of them make.  As the judges say, song choice is everything!!

Thus far in the competition, I'm liking Jordin Sparks more and more.  She's young, beautiful, and has a great voice to boot.  I think she'll be right up there with powerhouses LaKisha and Melinda in the finals... but somehow I think those 2 will cancel each other out, and Jordin may be able to pull out a win!  I don't know... I still think it's a little too early to say, but that's what I'm thinking.

Hopefully Sanjaya will be out of here sooner or later-- wonder what he'll do with his 'do tonight?!  Ugh!!

Alright, well, feel free to blog your thoughts about tonight's performances here... and watch for my summary of the "British Invasion" interpretations tomorrow!  To find out who I think is going home, tune into FOX 6 News at 5:00 Wednesday night!

There's been a lot of griping about how weak the competition is in this season of American Idol. Obviously, the women are stronger than the men. And the rest -- well, there's considerable room for debate.

But overall, what is the group missing? Is it charisma? Vocal ability? What is that X-factor that seems to be lacking this time around?

The ladies shined once again on American Idol!!  I say that Antonella and Haley should be going home... and if they don't, then someone who really deserves to be in the top 12 won't be there!

Here's my recaps:

1) Jordin Sparks:  good power and great energy on "Heartbreaker!"  She looks great and I think she's got a lot of potential!

2) Sabrina Sloan: I agreed with the judges... really not as good this week as she had been... but, she's still worthy of the top 12.

3) Antonella Barba: Not good!  She sang a Corinne Bailey Rae song which I love... but I did not love this version.  She just can't keep up with her competition.

4) Haley Scarnato: Not enough power, ran out of breath... tried country, but didn't work.

5) Stephanie Edwards: Another great performance... good power, looks great.

6) LaKisha Jones: She sang Whitney and she was spot-on!!  Excellent.  The judges always tell people to stay away from the popular "diva" singers, because they just can't do it justice... but in this case, she definitely can!!

7) Gina Glocksen: good energy and coming into her own personality with this Evanescence song.  I think she will appeal to the rocker audience, good job.

8)  Melinda Dootlittle: great, as always!!  I do think she needs to start having a little bit more confidence though.  She's great, she shouldn't look so surprised when the judges tell her so!!

I say going home tonight: Antonella and Haley for the girls... and Phil Stacey and Brandon Rogers for the boys.  I want to say Sanjaya again, but I don't know-- I'm worried he has a big fan base voting for him for some reason, which is unfortunate.  He SHOULD go home, but I just don't think he will.

Enjoy the show!!

Okay, so what is up with these guys?!  Ugh-- not very good.  I was very dissapointed with last night.  I think only about 4 of the 8 are safe...

Here are my recaps:

1) Blake Lewis-- still my favorite guy by far.  He did the "311" song which none of the judges knew!  But, I thought he did great-- good energy, good charisma.  He'll stick around.

2) Sanjaya Malakar-- would love to know who keeps voting for this kid!  He must be like the "Kevin Covias" of this season.  He murdered John Mayer's latest hit song... I thought it was weak.

3) Sundance Head-- I think he tried to hard to be like, a Chris Daughtry.  Was a bit shaky and shouting at times during his Pearl Jam song.  But, I think he's got enough fans to get him through.

4) Chris Richardson-- did Keith Urban... I thought it was alright in parts, but kinda weird in others.  I think he's trying to hard to be like Justin Timberlake.  But I think the ladies will keep lovin' him for it.

5) Jared Cotter-- Anybody think he looks like our FOX 6 reporter Justin Williams?!  Just a sidenote there... but, I think he did alright... kind of karaoke-like, but, he'll get through.

6) Brandon Rogers-- he did alright, but no real "wow" factor... I think he will get lost in the mix eventually.

7) Phil Stacey-- ummm... a Leann Rimes song, seriously?!  Ugh-- that was bad.  The second he opened his mouth it was over.  The judges all thought it was pretty weird too.

8) Chris Sligh-- good energy and good power... he's got a good voice, he'll be back for a couple weeks.

Well, off I go to check out the ladies performances tonight!  Check back for my take on them, tomorrow.
