Hey, aren't they supposed to be called blue jeans? Not the ones sold by a environmentally conscious store in New York that encourages recycling of old clothes.

This whole idea of spreading the energy from one source out to as many things possible has always fascinated me. I suppose this goes back to the things I've learned as a child, like leaving your oven open after you've cooked something so the oven can be a heat source for the room as it cools down.
But who would have thought the energy from walking could also be used to charge a cell phone?
I first read about this on
BBC News.
They say the adapted knee brace called Knee Dynamo can generate enough energy to power a mobile phone for 30 minutes from
one minute of walking.
It looks real clunky now, but after some time with development, it could not be detected on your leg. In the article, they mentioned t
he first to benefit could be amputees who are being fitted with increasingly sophisticated prosthetics.
So, there's medical research behind it, I'm sure. But appealing to a mass market would be great. Then my Blackberry would never get a low battery now if I have my Knee Dynamos on.

OK, we know it's cold out there right now, and the blue recycle bin is out in the garage. I really don't like bringing the cold air into the house each time I put an empty soda can in the bin. So, I went out to buy another 13-gallon trash can for the kitchen (and another matching one)--but only for recycled items. And to my surprise...
I'm recycling more!

All the junk mail, newspapers I don't read, shredded docs, bottles, food boxes and smaller items are so much easier to recycle when the bin is right there in front of you! After just one day of doing this, I think 80% of my trash is going into recycling! And it keeps my house warmer :)

In many ways Christmas has become a season of excess and more presents means more trash - certainly not a gift to nature. Environmentalists are seeing more of an effort to go green, but much more needs to be done. In the end, the gift that will truly keep on giving is recycling and re-using.
What ideas do you have to recycle after the holidays?
