Alright, I'm getting so tired of hearing about the controversy over the whole name of the Christmas tree. Should it be called a Christmas tree or a holiday tree? Well thats a no brainer for an answer. It should be called a Christmas tree. Heres the reasons why. For one, the tree goes up for Christmas, hence the name Christmas tree. Another reason it should be called a Christmas tree is because its our holiday, and we can do and name it whatever we want. I don't understand why people of other religions are complaining about the tree. Seriously, if you don't believe in Christmas, thats fine. Everyone has their own right to believe in whatever religion they want to. I just don't see why the people of other religions feel the need to be offended when we put up the Christmas tree. If your religion doesn't celebrate Christmas, then there is no reason for you to have a big fuss about the tree being called a Christmas tree. It would be stupid to call it a holiday tree. We don't put up a Christmas tree for Hanukkah, or Ramadan. We put it up for Christmas. Telling us to change the name of the tree to a holiday tree is like telling the Jewish to change the name of the menorah to the holiday candle. If you don't celebrate Christmas, then there isn't any need for the other religions to make us change the way we celebrate. If Christmas isn't your holiday, then just deal with all the Christmas commercials, decorations, songs, and other traditions that go along with the Christmas season. No need to ruin the holiday and tradition for the people who celebrate Christmas. Please let us celebrate Christmas the way it has been celebrated for all these years. Let us keep the Christmas tree, the music, and decorations. Let us people who celebrate this holiday, celebrate it the way it should be celebrated. It only comes once a year, and then its over and done with until next year. In other words, if it is a holiday you don't celebrate, then don't worry about it. No need to make a huge controversy over something you don't believe in. If your so interested in our Christmas holiday, then convert to a religion that celebrates it. Easy as that. Don't ruin the fun for everyone else. With that said, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO! I vote Christmas tree 100%.
I have a friend who is into scientology and she says she doesn't believe in God. I often wonder why she has a tree and celebrates Christmas which to me is the birth of Christ. Who am I to judge though. But I can wonder.

History of Christmas Trees
By Cheri Sicard

The exact origin of the Christmas tree seems under debate, but it is safe to say that this symbol evolved from Pagan tradition.

The Norse pagans and Celtic Druids revered evergreens as manifestations of deity because they did not "die" from year to year but stayed green and alive when other plants appeared dead and bare. The trees represented everlasting life and hope for the return of spring.

The druids decorated their trees with symbols of prosperity -- a fruitful harvest, coins for wealth and various charms such as those for love or fertility. Scandinavian Pagans are thought to be the first to bring their decorated trees indoors as this provided a warm and welcoming environment for the native fairy folk and tree elementals to join in the festivities. The Saxons, a Germanic pagan tribe, were the first to place lights on the their trees in the form of candles. Ancient Romans decorated their homes with greens at the Festival of Saturnalia, their New Year and exchanged evergreen branches with friends as a sign of good luck.

The first Christian use of the Christmas tree symbol is credited to 16th century when devout Christians also brought decorated trees into their homes. German born Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, is credited with starting the trend in England in 1841 when he brought the first Christmas Tree to Windsor Castle.

While Europe had already been celebrating Christmas for some time, the first recorded sighting of a Christmas tree in America came in 1830's Pennsylvania. It seems a local churc

It seems a local church erected the tree as a fundraising effort. Christmas trees were generally not thought kindly of in early America, as many people saw them as Pagan symbols, which is in fact, their origin. By the 1890's, however, Christmas ornaments were being imported from Germany and Christmas trees were in high fashion.

While Europeans generally favored smaller trees about three to four feet in height, Americans, as usual, liked to do things big. Their trees proudly stretched from floor to ceiling. Popular ornaments with the German-Americans were natural items like apples, nuts, berries, marzipan and cookies. Popcorn, an American addition, eventually was added to the mix.

With the advent of electricity, Christmas trees began to appear in town squares across America and the traditional "lighting of the tree" quickly became the official symbols of the beginning of the holiday season.

I did a little research. There are a few other stories. Just Google it!!

The Buddhist and the Indian put up their CHRISTMAS tree a week or so ago. It' s 6.5 foot white Colorado pine tree with clear lights proudly displayed in the middle of the patio doors.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

I was wondering when someone was going to post a blog on this. I saw it on the news the other nite, and was peeved that they would even put such garbage on the news. We have a war going on, people getting shot in malls, children getting abused, and these people cannot find anything better to do than complain about christmas tree or holiday tree? For gosh sakes it has been christmas tree forever. Personally i think these people need to put their time towards something more constructive, and leave such BLEEP off the news!

Definetley a Christmas tree. You don't see folks calling a menorah a "holiday candelabra".

In fact, Jewish friends of mine decorate their house and put up a Christmas tree every year. "It's my favorite time of the year," the wife says. They honor Hanukkah and observe it. Yet, their kids tell my daughter "Merry Christmas". They enjoy being part of the secular aspects of the holiday. They treat like a Fourth of July sort of holiday.

It's always been refered to as a Chistmas tree, and anyone who is bothered by that is neither a Christian, nor an American.
No one is trying to change, or rename any other religion's icons, and symbols so they need to leave this alone as well. You want to keep building contension between religions, keep screwing with the Christian.

In all honesty, my friends.
What this season conveys in all celebrations for all beliefs is peace, love and sharing.
Isn't that what matters?
These few fools whom take "political correctness" to an extreme are radicals.
They are bored hypocrites that have nothing better to do than fear the world is trying to manipulate them.
I know a person who practices Wiccan beliefs and will spout her hate for Christians and yet, every year she puts up a tree, sends me a card and proclaims her love of the hoilday.
That's because Christmas is about that magical feeling you get when you see the lights and the snow. It's the people who take the time to be a little more polite. The snow slows us down. It gives our hearts a feeling of serenity.
And which tree looks the best with snow?
Which tree lives all year long?
The Pines.
The one which has become a symbol of Christmas and a promise of continuing life.
Of course it's a Christmas Tree.
Ignore these few people who are so bored and their hearts filled with such anger that they can not feel that magical feeling.
They are lost souls who can no longer feel.

I thought they already decided to call it a Christmas tree again. Either way, since it is put up for Christmas, then I guess it would be a CHIRSTMAS tree. It isn't put up at halloween or easter, although I did once make an Easter tree. It was cute. But if you put a tree up specifically for Decemeber 24th and 25th then it would have to be a Christmas tree. If it were simply a "holiday" tree, then we need to make another holiday (hallmark and retail stores are very good at that) and give it another name. Maybe we could simply name it "Holiday" Then people could celebrate any way they wanted. The could even request a paid holiday from their employers. But that does sound like an awful lot of work. Maybe if they don't want to call it a Christmas tree, they should just not say anything because it is a Christmas tree and that is why it is put up around Christmas time.

If those worthless pieces of cr@p in Washington ever decide to do something worth while concerning a holiday, it had damn well better be making Novermber 11th (Veterans Day)a day in which ONLY Veterans are given the day off with pay. As it is now we Veterans get to work in order to pay the exorbitant salaries of people who never served a day in America's armed services. Gee, that really makes me feel like this country really appreciates the sacrifices we Veterans have made. Until that happens Veterans day is just another day that Government workers, and bank employees get to enjoy at the expence of Veterans. WHAT A CROCK.

I agree whole-heartedly with you Earwig. Veterans get the shaft all the way around as far as I am concerned, from the lack of appreciation, to getting screwed on medical and other benefits they so richly deserve. Enjoy your freedom? Thank a Veteran!

I just helped a friend decorate her Christmas tree and put up lights around her windows tonight.
It is incredible how that feeling overwhelms you when you sit back and relax.
There's a certain feeling of tranquility that goes along with this season.
