From FOX 6 Chief Meteorologist Vince Condella

Clouds have cleared this evening so will update overnight forecast to read Mostly Clear.  Dewpoint still in the low to mid 50s, but look for a ramp up of dewpoints Friday - into the low to mid 60s.  So a more muggy feel to the air and a cold front approaching.  Latest run of our exclusive RPM model (SkyVision Plus) still showing storms popping up after 4pm.  So I will leave ongoing forecast on track.

Chances for scattered afternoon showers on Saturday now looking pretty slim, but still may see a few pop-up here and there.

Overnight:  Mostly Clear

Low: 62-67

Dewpoint: 55-60

Wind: S-SW 5-10 mph

Friday: Partly Sunny, A Bit More Humid

A Few Thunderstorms After 4pm

High: 86 Inland, 80 Lakeside

Dewpoint: 60-65

Synopsis: High pressure centered over southern Indiana will bring us another dry and comfortable night. As the high slides away and a cold front approaches on Friday, our dewpoint will climb a bit into the 60's, setting the stage for a few scattered thunderstorms late Friday afternoon and into the evening. After the front passes late Friday night, winds will turn to the northwest. Saturday should be a pleasant summer day, with only a small chance of an instability shower during the afternoon.

SYNOPSIS by FOX 6 meteorologist Rob H aswell

An interesting weather scenario over the next two days with a chance of rain and storms but also a good chance of many areas staying dry.

We'll see a warm front set up to our SW today with slow but steady warm air advection into our area with increasing temperatures and a slow rise in humidity.  Right now, the lower and mid levels of the atmosphere are dry enough to prevent any rain for the daylight hours but those levels should moisten later today and tonight.  However, there isn't much in the way of a trigger or added "umph" in the air mass to really get things going.  Additionally, a complex of storms may dive to our south and both literally and figuratively steal our thunder tonight.

Tomorrow with an approaching cold front there is a better chance of rain and thunderstorms but again there isn't much at this point to support strong storms.

Showers and storms may linger into the early hours of Saturday but by the afternoon, another Canadian high pressure ridge moves over WI and gives us back some sunshine and comfortable conditions.  That lasts through Monday.

A chance of rain and storms returns by mid-week next week.

There is a fair amount of room for change in the next 24 to 48 hours so stay tuned for frequent updates.

Latest forecast model runs showing similar solutions for the next few days.  Still looks like a great Thursday with mainly high, thin clouds to filter the sunshine.  I'll bring in some showers late Thursday night, after midnight and towards dawn Friday morning.  Then during the day on Friday, with higher dewpoints in the 60s and diffluence aloft, look for scattered showers and thunderstorms to pop-up.

Biggest uncertainty for me is the Saturday forecast.  I think we'll see some widely scattered showers here and there, but otherwise a partly sunny day.  There is some cyclonic curvature to the upper air flow in the GFS model with some vorticity (spin) coming our way at 500mb (approx. 18,000 feet above the ground).

Sunday through Tuesday looking good as surface high and upper air ridge settles in over the western Great Lakes.  Weak pressure gradient so we can expect lake-breeze to kick in each day.

4pm, Wednesday, July 23, 2008

From FOX 6 Chief Meteorologist Vince Condella

What a terrific day in southeast WI.  And another great night ahead in the weather as skies remain clear and dewpoints in the comfortable 50s.  Winds will be light or go calm.

Thursday looking good as dry layers at low and mid levels will help keep away any surface moisture.  We should see an increase in high clouds during the day, so filtered sunshine, but still a nice day with dewpoints climbing into the upper 50s - comfortable.

The numerical prediction models showing the main batch of thunderstorms to pass to our south Thursday and Thursday evening, although our RPM model (SkyVision Plus) indicating that we will get clipped by an area of showers after midnight.  Should just be a glancing blow.

The main wave at upper levels is still off to our northwest on Friday, and dewpoint levels should jump into the low 60s.  It is possible we could pop a few scattered showers or thunderstorms Friday afternoon, but a better chance Friday evening and overnight.

Then the question about Saturday:  I will change the mostly sunny forecast and bring in a chance for scattered showers.  Upper level flow showing diffluence aloft, cyclonic curvature still present at 850mb (approx. 4,000 feet above the ground), and vorticity (spin) max. rotating over WI during the day.  It all adds up to one of those days with possible scattered showers, plus a fair amount of sunshine.

Sunday through Tuesday looks good with a lot of sunshine, surface high pressure, and weak flow aloft.  Low dewpoints in the 50s, too.

SYNOPSIS by FOX 6 meteorologist Rob Haswell

As the headline borrowed from the popular Jim Carey movie indicates, we have a beautiful forecast today as high pressure ridges across WI giving us a very stable, dry atmosphere and lots of sunshine!

Temperatures will be a bit cooler than average with highs near 80 away from the lake.  With a northeast breeze, the lakeside areas will be in the low to mid 70s this afternoon.

Tonight will be clear and cool with overnight lows in the middle to upper 50s.

As the high drifts east, the winds will shift to the SW ahead of an approaching low that will bring rain and possible thunderstorms late Thursday and again on Friday.

Behind the passing cold front on Friday we move back into clear, calm conditions for the weekend with another area of high pressure moving down from Canada with cooler, less humid air.

8:50pm, Tuesday, July 22, 2008

From FOX 6 Chief Meteorologist Vince Condella

Beautiful evening and clear overnight with dewpoints in the 50s.  Tough to beat this time of year.  Great Wednesday weather ahead as high pressure settles in and brings more comfortable dewpoints in the 50s and light northeast wind.  So the usual cooler lakeside for Wednesday.

Question for Thursday is how quickly to bring the moisture back into southeast WI.  The latest run of our RPM model (SkyVision Plus) now brings some rain showers back in by 3pm Thursday.  But this is the first time we have seen this solution - the previous runs of the model have held back the moisture until Thursday night.

For now I won't change Thursday forecast and keep it dry, but we will need to watch this one and update it for you Wednesday.  At any rate, looks like rain showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms Thursday night and into Friday.

Weekend looks terrific with sun and comfortable temperatures and dewpoints.

Synopsis: High pressure centered just north of Lake Superior will bring us some very pleasant mid-summer weather with sunny days and comfortably clear nights into Thursday. Low pressure will bring us a chance of thunderstorms Thursday night into Friday afternoon, but the Canadian high will re-establish itself for the weekend. That will spell more pleasant July weather for both Saturday and Sunday!
