Sad. Even though he kicked our butts in Detroit a couple of dozen times or so. The man is a legend and it was a pleasure to watch him play. he will be missed.

Brett Favre is truly the best player in the NFL and it is going to be hard to see him not be on the field. I am truly a die hard packer fan. Thank you Brett for all your leadership, hard work, dedication to the team, you truly WILL BE MISSED.

Now that I've got my tears under control all I can say is I am sad and confused.
I thought after his best season last year that he would be coming back for sure, but maybe that's his reasoning. Leave while still on top.
I'll miss Brett and the spirit he brings to the game. I'll miss watching that child-like playfulness he has always had.
Now I am also worried. What the heck will we do for a QB?? You can't have a QB that is injury prone. What the heck will we do?
I also wonder if Donald will retire now. He and Favre were very close.
I hope Brett decides to come back and be a QB coach. He would certainly be excellent as one.
He does deserve time with his family. He has been through so much.
I will miss him greatly and the Packers have a lot of loose ends to tie up now.
I certainly thank him for all 17 years of wonderful football and fun times. He is an incredible athlete and human being.
What a sad day this is.

What a sad day this is!!! I can't believe what I am hearing, but, who knows, maybe Brett will change his mind, anything can happen. I think that if he would stay another season, we would be Super Bowl bound!!!! I also can't believe that reports say that the Packers organization didn't want him back. What are they thinking, Brett Favre is the best thing to happen to the Packers! What a sad day in Wisconsin and in Packers history.

I am so sad to hear that Brett won't be back this coming season, but I am a die hard Packer fan and I will cheer on the new QB too.
I remember when Brett first became the Packers starting QB. While watching one of the games with a big group of people, he threw an interception. A lot of the people were yelling to get him off the field. I kept watching. I turned around and told everyone that this guy is different...that hes got something special going on. All he has to do is refine it some. I said "this guy is going to be one of the best". Well I was only partially right...he is THE best. Thanks for 17 years of great memories, Brett. Sunday's won't be the same without you. Thank you also for the chance to tell the naysayers "I TOLD YOU SO!"

I am not surprised. Sooner or later we would come to this. He gave a great season last year so on to the new. God bless Favre and thanks for the memories we know all good things must come to an end.

Well, I've been watching Brett Favre since I was a 10th grader at Marshall High School. And the thing I like about him is the fact that he played through great times, and also times that were tough. We know this. He had a good run. And we're grateful for it. And now, a brand new chapter will begin in the fall.

It's ironic that he picked today to announce it...03/04/2008 - if you add 3 + 4 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 8 = 17...he ends his career after 17 years!

Thanks for 17 great seasons Brett. You and your fellow Cheeseheads beat my beloved Patriots in a SuperBowl back in the day but I always loved watching you play!
Good luck in your future undertakings.

Not sad, not glad, not confused. He's had a good career and good luck in retirement from the game. My real concern in for John Madden and the Blitz team - who will they slobber all over now?

I guess I just don't see it. He got us so close. Yeah the cold took a toll on him in 2 games but what's the chance we'll get another -36 degree night to play for the chanpionship next year? Brett even says he still wants to and can play another year:

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired... the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl."

I think he'll regret not taking us to the dance one more time, especially when we get close but #12 succumbs to injury and, well...

I think he blames himself for the loss to the Giants. That last interception was a killer.
I just thank him for all of those years of pure joy and emotion.
He made football fun again and that was for the whole league not just at home here. He was loved everywhere.
