So people are you going to make a statement, or sit on your hands and continue to allow the corporate/political elite to abuse the trust we’ve placed in them? As I’ve made clear previously, I have nothing but contempt for our greedy self-serving politicians, and those who sit and whine about the state of affairs we now find ourselves in, but who refuse to take part in any real actions that will send a message. I call on all of you to stop with the half measures, and take appropriate action against the power structure that is stealing your hard earned dollars. NOW is the time to make your voice heard, so if you REALLY have had enough of this theft, and gouging I implore you to dedicate a day, or how ever long it takes to get these political hacks to finally understand that there is only so much BS anyone should have to put up with. Therefore I call on all Americans to join with me in a NATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST where no one goes to work, or shopping, and start denying the Government, and companies of our labor, and dollars. You want to see some action? It’s going to take all of us to insist they take our concerns seriously.

I'm with you. Let's stick a wrench in the works.
Make them say ouch.
Spend a day outdoors instead.
Spend a day with your family.
Let the government and big business know that they do not control us.
We are supposed to control them.

That is how it once was Katbird, but of late our representitves have insidiously, and methodically taken that power away.
We are in no better a situation today than were the colonists of the 1700s, who were forced to become rebels because of Englands oppressive rule.

Hell, let's take a week off! I could use the rest. That'll show 'em!

I agree comrade. We as hard working AMERICANS have the right to be represented and the fact remains that democrat or republican, NEITHER party respresents the middle class anymore. It's too late to scrap the gov as a whole, but a revolution in near and I will be on the front lines to stand up for MY nation.

garfield, our form of government is the best in the world. Our problem is those in office who have perverted it for their own personal gain at the expence of the people. Every country has these pathetic pieces of garbage in their governments. How they keep getting re-elected is what amazes me. Of course, those they represent are usually just like them. What does that say about us Americans?

I hardly see how a single day, or even a week without work or shopping is going to make a difference. At best it would be a transitory blip. What would work, but is wholly impractical, would be to say that we are not going to work or shop until the situation is resolved in our favor. Better yet, and far more practical, would be folks getting together on a large scale to invest in technologies that would create lower fuel costs. We need to stop looking at government as the solution to our problems. The MARKETPLACE, people, is where this problem will get solved. Go read some Adam Smith. Empowering government to do more is only going to insure the government does little to actually solve a problem. INVEST your money in fuel efficiency technology.

FINALLY, a serious reply.

The suggestion of a day, or however long it takes was meant as a place to start, and the resulting lack of tax revenue going into the states coffers IS going to make government take notice of the citizenry's displeasure with the current situation. I agree that it should be the Market forces that spur investment for development of new energy, but we can not ignore the fact that our government has been more of an obsticle to this end than an asset with all of the hurddles they've created before allowing development to even start. Yes, the safety of our environment should be a major concern, but impossing unreal regulations only serves to defeat innovation. If only one thing has become clear from all of this, it's the fact that our system of government is in need of overhaul.

As for your insistance to "clean up my act", I will take up your suggestion.

I'm a curmudgeon who is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the total lack of accountability of our elected representation.
