As noted in my bio, I’m a bit of a frustrated musician.  At the same time, I am a pretty avid gamer who enjoys a little “Tiger Woods Golf” or “Call of Duty” on my Xbox 360.  While I have certainly heard of “Guitar Hero” (and even tried it once), I am trying to rationalize in my mind if this game would satisfy the little air guitarist in me!  I have already dismissed the “Rock Band” game as the last thing my neighbors need to experience is me singing at any volume or banging on a drum set!

So, my questions to you are:  Do you have “Guitar Hero?”  Is one version better than another? Do you enjoy it?  How often do you play it?  Is it worth the money?  Is one guitar style controller better than another?  Would you recommend it to a middle-aged wannabe rocker guy?

Thanks for the input!  Rock On!  CRG

I own Guitar Hero I, II & III. I Love it!!! I have the regular guitars... but when they break I will get the wireless ones. If you have more than one you can battle with another player which is a lot of fun. I like all three versions, but would have to say the 3rd is probably my favorite.

I have played guitar for 15 years and I play guitar hero. From my take I find it easier to actually play the guitar then the game, but its a gas none the less.
I haven't played the 3rd one yet just been too busy with other things but I would say yes play its a hoot. My wife even has a blast with it and I get to make fun of her so thats a bonus. Let your inner kid and rocker out.

Here's a challenge for you.
If you have Guitar Hero 3 play the Red Hot Chili Peppers song and try to be the bass player (Flea). I cracked up watching my son trying to keep up with Flea.
Slash from GNR said that he found it harder to play Guitar Hero than to play regular guitar.
I admit I'm not that good at it, but it's fun.

Hi CRG!!! I must say I play the bass and cant for the life of me, PLAY GUITAR HERO AT ALL!! I
have to agree with Belia811 that it is easier to play bass guitar than Hero. When I was playing it I kept finding myself trying to "strum" the PUSH BUTTONS!!(LOL)But I LOVE the idea!! I say GO FOR IT 100% and I think it's a GREAT WAY to satisfy your "inner rock star" and they have a good selection of songs that I think You would enjoy!! CRG, keep Your blogs coming....love them!! Please keep us updated on Your progress!!

Guitar Hero 1 and 3 are awesome. You should skip the second game and the 80's rock one too. the first game costs like $15 used.

If you can get a copy of Rock Band, you just can't lose with that one. The drums alone make it awesome.

So far Foghat's "Slow Ride" is slowly coming along. It is definitely tuffer than it looks, but when you hit the notes correctly it is very cool. More later...CRG

I am a middle aged lover of classic rock music! I never learned to play a musical instrument, but I can play a "mean" CD, radio or I-Pod. I am fond of saying that, "We all can't be musicians! Somebody has to be in the crowd listening!" I love good live music and enjoy the various music venues in and around Milwaukee. I am an unabashed lover of all things "Floydian." My plan is use this blog to talk about my interest in Pink Floyd and many other things related to Classic Rock. I hope you enjoy and join in the conversation(s). Rock On! From the Classic Rock Guy
